So, I'm moving from "it's got to be perfect crowd" to the Let's just get it done and out there -
Reciently, I've been having conversations with some of my clients about Generating a Website or Page with AI or Building the said site or page.
Here's my take on it, after spending almost 3hrs editing an AI generated page to be "good enough" - where had I Built it, I would have been done in 30min. (it was a learning experience).
It's a balance. and a Strategic Decision point. Truly.
Which brings us to...
Today's Topic - Yesterday I was talking with one of my clients and she told me about how she had paid for a workshop ($47) to show her how to build a website with and AI tool and then import the HTML to her CRM / Funnel Page.
We both had second thoughts, and I've done it.
The second thoughts? What about when you need / want to update or change it?
Well you didn't need a coder to build it , but you sure do to edit it!
The other option - take your code back to your AI tool of choice and maybe 3hrs later it's more like what you want, and all the things it broke are now "fixed".
Yea, if you build it with AI, you edit it with code, or a re-hash of the code you now have. (read that to mean - edits require a coder, either human or AI)
And that's ok if you know that going in. If you don't know how to edit code or to speak to the AI code bot in a way it gets and executes what you are asking for, then that's ok.
AI websites are for getting started, out the gate, and building the infrastructure as you go.
Modern websites built on a website drag and drop block editor (Wordpress, Wix, SquareSpace, certain themes,,, etc) may still take longer to build (not that much) but in the long run will be easier to edit and maintain the original look, feel and branding.
Having your AI bot edit your code based on your queries and prompts, well, frankly a crap shoot because you risk the AI making changes that you didn’t ask for that now broke the parts you like. - so you have to go back and edit that part.
How do I know?
Well I build them both ways. Just AI code and by hand with a block editor.
I'm way faster on the update side of things, than I was with the AI builder yesterday.
In the 3hrs I spent trying to update then webpage and then the things it broke in the process I could have had the changes complete in less than 30 min.
Now I’m building an App to help edit the code on these AI generated sites - Like I had back in the day.
So in short -
Generate the page / site with AI - to get it up and out, embed your forms so you can still make sales and opt-ins to your list.
While that is running, build a well structured page that is easier to maintain in the long run, especially for things that will be around for a while.
If you’re trying to decide between an AI-built site and a builder-based site, you don’t need more noise.
You need one clean decision, with eyes wide open.
