👏🏽 Welcoming Julie Kunkle as our Chief Operating Officer.

“Greenville brings people together in a way that accelerates ideas, supports bold thinking, and creates the kind of momentum that companies want to be part of,” Kunkle said about the opportunity to join the growing GCEDC team.

Kunkle previously served as Director of Global Business Development for the South Carolina Department of Commerce.

“Julie is known for her ability to anticipate emerging opportunities, clarify direction in complex environments and mobilize diverse teams toward common objectives,” said GCEDC President and CEO Sam Konduros.

Kunkle joins the team on October 12.

The Greenville Drive have invested $40 million in ballpark upgrades at Fluor Field since 2017, transforming the West End into a sports entertainment district. The Greenville Swamp Rabbits will benefit from a planned $282 million modernization of Bon Secours Wellness Arena. "After navigating four venues in eight seasons — including stints at nearby Furman University and Clemson University — Greenville Triumph SC is finally planting roots. The club’s move to the new GE Vernova Park this summer marked a pivotal transition from a nomadic existence to a permanent community anchor," the article says.

Across , we remembered the nearly 3000 lives lost in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and honored the legacy of first responders who ran toward danger to help others.

“They came from different communities and walks of life. To their families they were never a number. They were mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, husbands and wives, friends and neighbors,” Mayor Knox White said at a ceremony hosted by Cascades Verdae. “I don’t think a year goes by that I don’t meet someone who had a friend or relative who died in the World Trade Center.”

The Greenville Police Department Honor Guard raised the American flag at the Thomas and Vivian A. Wong Honor Tower at Unity Park. The tower, along with Liberty Bridge, will be illuminated in red, white and blue throughout the weekend.

Greenville continues to grow. 📈

Data from the City of Greenville shows strong activity in building permits, fee collections and projects in the pipeline through July 31, with several major developments already underway and more anticipated.

From new health care facilities to major mixed-use and residential projects, the numbers point to continued growth and investment in Greenville.

"My best guess is that we will continue to see record growth and investment," said Buddy Skinner, director of building and codes for the City of Greenville.

Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport is preparing for the first of two 60-hour closures as part of its runway rehabilitation.

Here's what travelers need to know:

✈️ First closure: 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, through 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14

✈️ Second closure: 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, through 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21

During both closures, all aircraft operations will pause, the terminal will be closed to the public and cargo flights will not operate.

The project is designed to minimize impacts on travelers and take advantage of September, typically one of the driest and slowest months for air travel in the Upstate.

Nightly runway closures will continue through Nov. 12 for additional rehabilitation and finishing work.

is expanding housing options to meet the needs of a growing community.

Multifamily housing was the focus of a panel discussion at our quarterly Real Estate Breakfast. Class A multifamily units in Greenville have an occupancy rate of around 94.5% and demand continues to grow.

“The challenge isn’t simply to build more units,” said Jared Hartzell, chief development officer of GCEDC. “It’s to create the right housing at the right price points, in the right locations, while maintaining the quality of place that makes people want to live here.”

City planners are directing new housing to the City's major corridors. “It’s kind of a common-sense approach to developing our city, where we’re guiding that density toward the areas that can handle it the best and protecting the areas that are a little more sensitive,” said Barrett Armstrong, Principal of City of Greenville, South Carolina Government’s Long Range Planning Division.
