Labor Day Weekend at Stone Ashe.

If you’re in town for the NC Apple Festival, come up the mountain after downtown. The tasting room is open all weekend, and the perfect way to enjoy the final stretch of summer.

We have two bottles worth knowing about this weekend:

The 2023 ‘Tether’ Red Blend releases on Saturday.

We’re also down to the last few cases of 2023 ‘Wayfinder’, our Burgundian-style Chardonnay. It took gold at the 2026 London W**e Competition.

Harvest starts tonight. Sauvignon Blanc is coming in, so if you swing by Saturday you’ll see fruit moving through the crush pad all day.

Monday is an especially good day to come by. We’ll have special guests in the tasting room all afternoon.

See you this weekend!

Thank you to Lauren Mowery for including us in the The Local Palate Fall 2026 issue.

The piece is about a region that has outgrown its old reputation. For a long time, North Carolina w**e was framed as tourism or muscadine. That story has evolved. The state has seven AVAs, a real range of climates and elevations, and growers planting classic European Vitis vinifera alongside hybrids bred for disease, pests, and climate.

The piece also spends time with people doing the same hard work in their own terroir: Jim Law Linden Vineyards and Lost Mountain Vineyards in Virginia, and growers in Texas who have already learned that heat is only one of the variables.

To survive in these regions, as Drew Baker Burnt Hill Farm says, you need “humility, direct relationships with customers, and a compelling narrative.”

Pick up the issue to read more about the w**es and producers across North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Texas.

Introducing our ‘Tether’ line. Meant to be opened often, shared easily, and enjoyed among the people, meals, and conversations that keep us… tethered.

Available this Saturday: our 2023 ‘Tether’ Red Blend

80% Cabernet Sauvignon
20% Petit Verdot

Dark cherry, elderberry, and warm spice, carried by bright mountain acidity and refined tannins.

We look forward to seeing you all over Labor Day Weekend!

Tether is back.

Our first vintage sold out earlier this summer, and we’re excited to bring this back into the tasting room. The second vintage of Tether arrives this Saturday, August 22nd.

53% 2025 Riesling
45% 2022 Chardonnay
2% 2025 Pinot Gris

It opens with white peach, Meyer lemon, jasmine, and crisp green apple, layered with honeysuckle and wet stone. The Riesling brings vibrant citrus, floral lift, and energetic acidity, while the Chardonnay adds texture, depth, and notes of ripe pear and lemon curd.

Available starting Saturday, August 22nd.

We can’t wait for you to try it

Cora is in full w**ery-prep mode.

We’re tracking the usual markers (BRIX, pH, & TA), alongside growing degree days and the weather forecast. Those three juice numbers give us a sense of how the fruit is progressing, and the growing degree days and forecast give us an idea of how fast or slow the window is moving.

Years ago a nursery accidentally mixed Pinot Gris vines into our Riesling block, so every season we get about 1,000 pounds of Pinot Gris that ripens first. That small lot is almost always the first pick. Sauvignon Blanc usually follows around Labor Day.

Slowly moving our way towards harvest.

Grapes are still moving through veraison, equipment is being cleaned, and barrels & tanks are being prepped.

We’re expecting to bring in our Sauvignon Blanc fruit at the end of August. Until then, we’re on cleaning and landscaping detail.

Well, this growing season has delivered just about everything we could ask for. Days in the mid-80s, nights in the high 60s, and well-timed rainfall have created ideal conditions in the vineyard. At our elevation, those cooler nights help preserve natural acidity and slow the pace of ripening.

Last week, the berries began to soften and change color, marking the transition from growth to ripening. From here, the vine’s energy shifts toward developing the flavors & aromas.
