Spurge is a common summer annual w**d that thrives in hot, dry conditions and often shows up in thin or stressed areas of the lawn. It grows low to the ground in a mat-like pattern, spreading outward from a central taproot and quickly filling bare spots. One of the easiest ways to identify spurge is by its small oval leaves and reddish stems that branch out in all directions. If you break a stem, it will release a milky white sap, a key characteristic that helps distinguish it from other low-growing w**ds.
