Indiana District 7 Healthcare Coalition (west central Indiana) recently came together for a Long-Term Care tabletop exercise. We've done tabletops like this elsewhere before, testing local teams against emergencies involving a number of patients who may require specialized equipment, care, or evacuation.

Teams across Indiana have seen this from recent flooding, where nursing homes, LTC facilities, and more need to be evacuated. Being prepared, having a plan, and knowing you can trust every other partner agency or department saves lives, reduces risks to residents, and is precisely what the public expects of world-class public servants and emergency teams.

Recently, the Montgomery County Local Emergency Planning Committee met with VPC for a tabletop exercise. These exercises are always grounded in reality, with emergency scenarios that could feasibly happen within a community.

In this case, what happens if hazardous materials from a nearby facility fail? Who responds, with what, how, and what should other partners like healthcare facilities and law enforcement expect?

Last week, VPC travelled to sunny Florida for a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional prep session for the Big Bend Healthcare Coalition in Tallahassee, FL. Big Bend HCC's 8 counties are in the middle of the panhandle. This multi-day prep session was intense with a focused group of participants.

Late last week VPC had the pleasure of working with Indiana District 10 Healthcare Coalition.

As you can see, the weather started out with some severity that closely resembled our scenario during the training!

Then, a few days later, the scenario turned "very close to reality" as more storms moved through southern Indiana. Parts of Newburgh and Princeton suffered damage, along with widespread flooding (thankfully with no known injuries).

Great engagement from partners, and well done!
