We Don’t Pick by the Calendar. Our grapes are harvested when they reach optimal ripeness. There’s a balance of sugar, acidity, and flavor. In the Applegate, grape harvest generally happens from late August through October. Our local microclimate, altitude and diverse grape varieties influence the seasonal timing.
Sugar content is measured by Brix. The sugar level in grapes indicates potential alcohol content, decreasing acidity and is an element of winemaking style. Grapes develop full flavor, aroma, and tannin maturity.

The soil, elevation, slope, aspect, variety, and the pace of the season all contribute to vineyard expression. Time is a magic ingredient in our terroir. Valley View and the Applegate are not set to one synchronized harvest clock.

The wonderful cool nights of the Applegate Valley and the incredible afternoon breezes, our grapes slowly ripen to perfection. Turns out my parents made a perfect decision 55 years ago in choosing the Applegate Valley to raise a family, to raise grape vines and to start the Rogue Valley wine industry.
