On May 14, 2026, deputies with the Callaway County Sheriffโs Office responded to the area of Pioneer Drive and Jefferson Street in reference to a reported domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, deputies observed the victim lying on her back in the grass south of Pioneer Drive, holding her throat and neck area. The victim stated she had been assaulted and strangled by her fiancรฉ, Achilles Zeus Ayres.
According to the victim, she and Ayres had been arguing when Ayres became upset, stood in front of her, wrapped both hands around her throat, and began squeezing. The victim stated she was unable to breathe and repeatedly told Ayres, โStop, youโre going to kill me. I love you.โ, to get him to stop. The victim stated she did not lose consciousness but became dizzy and feared for her life.
The victim further stated that Ayres then threw her to the ground by her throat, causing her head to strike the ground. Deputies observed a contusion and reported pain to the left rear side of the victimโs skull.
While deputies were still speaking with the victim, Ayres approached a patrol vehicle and asked about the victimโs whereabouts. Deputies then took Ayres into custody and transported him to the Fulton Police Department. During a post-Miranda interview, Ayres admitted he and the victim had been involved in a verbal argument and stated he had โwrapped his arms aroundโ the victim in an effort to get her to stop screaming.
According to the report, Ayres was described as homeless and having no ties to the community aside from the victim. The report also noted prior convictions, including Assault Second Degree, Burglary First Degree, Burglary Second Degree, Resisting Arrest, Resisting or Interfering with a Felony Arrest, and Arson First Degree. Ayres is now charged with two counts of domestic assault in the third degree.
