It's not uncommon for business owners to think delegation is the problem when their business becomes too dependent on them.

But delegation is rarely the root issue.

The real problem is trying to delegate before the structure exists to support it.

When roles are unclear, when decision-making lacks ownership, and when authority is undefined, handing off responsibility does not create freedom.

It creates confusion.

✅ Every core function in a business needs clear ownership.
✅ Every role needs defined responsibility.
✅ Every leader needs clarity around what decisions belong to them.

That is not primarily a people issue. It is a structural issue.

We see this often with growing businesses, and it is rarely because the owner lacks effort or capability.
