This week, the National Disaster Medical System strengthened pediatric readiness by providing specialized pediatric disaster response training to 150 medical responders.

NDMS responders developed skills to safely assess, stabilize and manage pediatric patients in austere environments. The training also focused on using pediatric resources available in the NDMS cache and making appropriate decisions about consultation, transport and transfer.

About 1 in 5 Americans is a child, and children have unique needs during disasters. Meeting those needs requires ongoing training and practice.

Pediatric preparedness requires education and training. NDMS teams are training today so they are better prepared to care for children when disaster strikes.

🏠 Emergency Housing Available for Hawk Fire Families

Residents displaced by the Hawk Fire in Reno may be eligible for free temporary housing through a partnership between Nevada 211 and Airbnb.org.

Families whose homes are within an evacuation zone or have been lost or damaged by the fire are encouraged to complete the assistance form as soon as possible. Eligible residents may receive Airbnb.org credits to book temporary accommodations that meet their needs while they begin the recovery process.
