No, we’re not THAT uptight, but an active site means heavy equipment, constant movement and plenty of reasons to know exactly who’s in the work area.

Grinding all of our inputs before isn’t required, but it makes for a much better process. Breaking down and other material helps keep odors suppressed and the site tidy, while creating a more consistent mix that allows the composting process to happen faster and more evenly.

Q: Why Compost?
A: Maintain Soil Biology

Healthy soil is alive. Beneath the surface, microorganisms are constantly breaking down organic material and cycling nutrients into forms plants can use.

Adding helps support that living system by supplying organic matter that soil organisms use as a source of food and energy. As those organisms process organic material, nutrients are gradually returned to the soil and become part of the ongoing biological cycle.

This activity also helps build a more resilient soil environment. Rather than treating soil as simply something that holds roots in place, compost helps maintain the biology that allows soil to function as a living system.

Hot and steamy , even on a warm summer morning!

With internal pile temperatures reaching 160°F, a little humidity in the air is all it takes for a healthy compost pile to make a summer morning look like the middle of winter.

Did You Know?

About 16% of all landfilled material is food. That's roughly 400 pounds per person each year! In landfills, organic matter breaks down without oxygen, producing methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. returns these valuable nutrients and minerals to our soils.
