The more we learn about soil, the more remarkable it becomes.

Researchers from Johns Hopkins University and more than 40 partner institutions have launched one of the largest studies ever conducted on America's . Scientists estimate that 99% of soil microorganisms remain unknown.

Using advanced DNA sequencing, the team has already identified more than 1,000 previously undiscovered bacterial strains, helping unlock new insights into , nutrient cycling, plant growth and ecosystem resilience.

It's a reminder that some of the world's greatest discoveries are happening just beneath our feet!

We were pleased to welcome members of the Association of Ohio Recyclers for a behind-the-scenes tour of Rathlin Soils.

From incoming organics and active to screening, bagging and the future of circular solutions, we shared how organic materials are transformed into valuable products that build .

We always love telling our story and showing firsthand how isn't waste—it's . Thanks to everyone who joined us!

The tadpoles have grown up!

We've seen hundreds of these little guys hopping around our retention pond. Love that in addition to the process, there are other natural biological cycles taking place on our site.

No, we can't plastic. But these compostable food waste bags are a different story.

With windrow temperatures regularly exceeding 160°F and billions of hardworking microbes on the job, these bags break down remarkably fast. What starts as a bag of food scraps becomes part of the process, helping return valuable organic matter back to the soil.

Q: Why Compost?
A: Restore Nature's Soil Cycle

In a natural soil system, organic matter is constantly . Plants grow, leaves fall, nutrients return to the soil and new life begins again. It's a cycle that has sustained healthy soil ecosystems for millions of years.

Human activity often interrupts that process. Valuable organic materials are removed from the land, nutrients are consumed but not returned and land is overused, leaving soils with fewer of the resources they need to thrive.

Composting helps close that gap.

By returning organic matter to the soil, replenishes carbon, supports beneficial microbes and improves the soil's ability to hold water and cycle nutrients. The result is healthier, more resilient soil that can support strong growth season after season.

Compost isn't changing nature. It's helping restore the cycle that nature intended.

Compost is alive! And in the dry summer heat, can definitely get thirsty.

If the water doesn't fall from the sky, then we make sure to provide our windrows with the drink they need to prevent dehydration. Producing high-quality requires carefully balancing the necessary conditions to keep the microbial community healthy, active and performing at its best.

Built. Tested. Ready to ship!

Our new robotic stacking arm will be installed at the end of the bagging line, where it will automatically stack filled retail bags onto pallets before they are shrink wrapped, loaded and sent to garden centers across the Midwest.
