Michael is a Los Angeles native who has spent the past 16 years as a houseless resident in Skid Row and the surrounding areas of Downtown LA. Since moving here last year, I take nightly walks and frequently connect with people in the environment. Every time I saw Michael in passing, he stood out to me because of his personal style and how humble he is. Understanding the reality of his situation, I recently asked him if he'd be interested in some clothing from us. It had been a couple of weeks since that conversation and when I finally saw him again last night, he reminded me about "hooking him up". Michael was thankful for the items I gave him and agreed to take a quick image for me as well. As we spoke last night, I found out he was a veteran who has chosen to be houseless because it's the best scenario for him. He had no complaints outside of people treating him 'less than' because of his decisions. As he asked more about the what I do with the brand, I simply let him know my focus is on promoting creativity and expanding our minds to realize all the possibilities that exist. Michael told me his version of being creative is finding different ways to stay safe on the streets by connecting with security guards that sometimes guide him to safe places to camp, sleep, etc. He also mentioned that the houseless community in LA is an issue for some but it shouldn't be because we all need to stick together and understand one another. Michael is a great human and a visionary by all means.

In the art world, abstraction, is defined as freedom from representational qualities in the work you create. Project 5 references this idea while also considering the spiritual, emotional aspects of the art form. What we create from deep places in our soul will then be interpreted by the viewer to create their own connection to what they see. This process is what makes the abstract form so astonishing to me. Project 5 features various wearable items including blanket designs by Aija Hunt of AMLH Art .
