Yesterday’s favorite coaching client. 🐾

He showed up dressed for success, listened intently, and had absolutely no interest in implementing anything we discussed.

But look at that bow tie. Clearly executive material. 😂

Apparently writing a book once wasn’t enough. 😂

I’ve been quietly working on an expanded edition of Stick Figure Leadership.

One of the things I’m most excited about is adding new exercises that help leaders move beyond simply reading a leadership concept to actually applying it.

Because that’s always been the heart behind Stick Figure Leadership for me:

Leadership can be complex, but leading well doesn’t have to be complicated.

As I’m developing each new exercise, I’m asking one question:

“What can a leader actually DO differently after working through this?”

I can’t wait to share more of what I’m working on. 🩷

What if development started with what’s already strong? 💪

One of the things I appreciate about CliftonStrengths is the shift from constantly asking “What needs fixing?” to also asking “What’s already working, and how can we build on it?”

Great leaders know both matter.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the Lubbock SHRM Leadership Conference with keynote speaker, Dr. Tony Bridwell . He was fantastic! One of my favorite quotes from him was “The story that consumes us, controls us.”

And it really made me think about the different “stories” I hear as an Executive Coach -the most common one sounding a lot like imposter syndrome. 😉

We tell our teams, “My door is always open.”

But what happens when someone actually walks through it?

When they bring a mistake, a concern, or something we don’t want to hear, our response matters.

Do we listen to their perspective before defending our own?

Do we ask clarifying questions instead of just assuming?

Because people remember how we make them feel in those moments.

Your response today may determine whether they come to you tomorrow.

I’m curious!! 👀 I find I do my best work either outside, surrounded by nature (in the middle of “nowhere”), OR in a loud and crowded coffee shop with various conversations going on all around me. But there’s no in between 😂
