5 years ago in Malindi, Kenya, my missionary friend, Jim, was driving me to a church where I was expecting to do a casual roundtable discussion amongst friends. He casually turned to me, and said, “Oh! By the way, word got out about your teaching and you are now going to be doing a training to a large group of mostly strangers. I’m sure you’ll be fine.” That moment of panic and prayer (as well as a small white board and questionable dry erase marker) started the whole basis for my book, Stick Figure Leadership: Turning Complex Concepts into Simple Actionable Leadership.

Today we laughed about that memory (and others) and he said, “Who would’ve known that moment would turn into a book? You’re welcome.” 😂😵‍💫😉

Consistency is one of the three foundational pillars of my Triangle of Trust, which I detail in my book, Stick Figure Leadership. Consistency isn't flashy - but it is every bit as important as Communication and Clarity. How can you be more consistent in your behaviors and actions with your team? 🤔

This last Saturday, Aspire Professional Development competed in Lubbock’s very first Hub City Bed Run benefitting an organization near and dear to my heart - Lubbock Open Door. Their missions is “to cultivate community, opportunity, and restoration for individuals facing poverty, homelessness, and s*x trafficking.”

And while didn’t win the race (I am DEFINITELY not a runner 🫣🤭), we had the very best time engaging with the Open Door community. It was a fantastic event and so well executed! Thank you Rynn Z. Day, and the Open Door staff for hosting! I can’t wait to do it again next year!!

One of the biggest challenges leaders face is effectively delegating. They either hold on to the project or task (which creates resentment among those they delegated to) or they delegate without any accountability process (which often leads to things falling through the cracks).

Effective delegating includes having a process in place for check-ins, clearly defined expectations and requirements, and effective communication for questions or challenges.

What are some of the processes you have put in place to become better at delegating? I would love to hear them!

Sometimes the best connections happen in the most unexpected places.

I met Penny at my mother-in-law’s new assisted living facility… and within minutes, we realized we spoke the same language… leadership.

She texted me that she found me online and had already ordered my book, Stick Figure Leadership. Penny is a leader who genuinely cares about growing herself and others, and those are my favorite kinds of conversations.

It was a sweet reminder that leadership isn’t confined to titles or offices… it shows up anywhere people choose to grow.

Another fantastic lineup!! Can’t wait to learn from these amazing Go-Givers!

Anna Kantzavelos: “Company Culture Isn’t Just Corporate.” Anna will reveal that it’s actually THE secret ingredient for solopreneurs and small-business owners too.

5 Authors. 5 Minutes. 5 Game-Changing Lessons!

Join us LIVE on Zoom on Thursday, March 12th at 1:00pm Eastern Time.

As part of The Go-Giver® Success Vault we hold quarterly Live Events on Zoom where our members can ask me anything. Though there is so much talent in this group it ends up being more of a discussion where we strategize, mastermind, and share lots of terrific business ideas together.

It happens that a number of our members are authors. And their books are fantastic!

So, Kathy Tagenel and I had an idea: What if we were to ask 5 of our member-authors to each share 5 minutes of wisdom. And then we opened it up for 5 minutes of Q&A.

They agreed!

And...

The Go-Giver® Spotlight Series — 5 Authors. 5 Minutes. 5 Lessons…LIVE!

…was born.

Only instead of just our members attending, with their agreement we’re opening this up to the public (that's you). 🙂

The date will be Thursday, March 12th at 1:00pm Eastern Time.

Our Star Presenters Will Be:

John Ray: His book The Generosity Mindset is perhaps the best I’ve ever read on charging what you are worth and receiving it. Clients see more value in your work than you do, and learning to name and price that hidden value changes everything.

Val Roskens Tews: Her wonderful new book is The Butterfly Strategy, a heart-centered guide that helps you build an online community of business friends, collaborators, and clients. No tricks or gimmicks! Build powerfully and authentically!

Donn King Author of the Sparklight Chronicles parable series and others, he’ll provide a look at how creative people can continue meaningful work despite real-life constraints that would otherwise cause overwhelm and inaction. Very inspiring!

Dave Moravek: Author of the “Echoes” series, his parables are filled with business wisdom featuring seasoned sales mentor “Charlie.” He shares how when you are truly present, unexpected connections can happen anywhere, you just have to be open.

Angelique Unfred Liles: In her terrific new book, Stick Figure Leadership, she brilliantly helps today's leader cut through the usual complexity and bring leadership back to what truly matters: people, purpose, and practical action. A must read/study

If I may say…this is going to be one AWESOME event!

One of my favorite questions I have been asked since publishing my book, “Stick Figure Leadership: Turning Complex Concepts Into Actionable Leadership,” is:

“Do you still have your original stick figures?”

Oh yes. Yes, I do. I still use them in my Leadership Workshops 😄

I talk about where the idea for my stick figures came from as well as my challenge of being a horrible artist in my book; but I thought it would be fun to show the “before” and “after.”

My original stick figures are pretty bad! . Uneven sizes. Arrows that don’t quite line up. Stick figures that look like potato heads instead of people. 🫣

The printed versions in the book?
Cleaner. More polished. Balanced. Intentional.

Regardless of which version you see, the message is still the same.

Every idea starts a little messy.

Sometimes leadership does too.

Anyone else have a “first draft” version of something you’re proud of now?

Part 2 of Clifton Strengths Leadership Team Workshop for Chick-fil-A here in Lubbock was a blast. This Executive Leadership team juggle so many moving parts. One of their biggest takeaways was the diversity of their strengths within their leadership was something they could leverage to make an even bigger impact on those they lead. 🙌🏻
