💧 From Flooding Every Heavy Rain… to a Permanent Drainage Solution. 🏡
Another successful water management project completed by Rocky Ridge Excavation.
This Cayuga Lake homeowner had been battling water intrusion every time a heavy rain rolled through. Because the home is built on a slab-on-grade foundation, keeping groundwater below the slab elevation is critical to preventing water from entering the home.
When we saw over an inch of rain in the forecast for the coming weekend, we reorganized our entire schedule to get this job completed before the house flooded again. We worked late nights and through the start of the rain to make sure no more property damage occurred.
After evaluating the property, we designed and installed a complete drainage system—not just a quick fix.
✅ All roof runoff from the homeowner’s gutters and the neighboring home’s gutters was collected and tied into a solid drainage system, then discharged through SDR pipe directly into the roadside storm drain.
✅ We excavated below the slab elevation and installed a heavy-duty non-woven geotextile drainage system designed to intercept groundwater before it ever had the chance to reach the home.
✅ Along the entire side of the house, we installed an exposed French drain featuring:
• Heavy-duty non-woven geotextile fabric
• Two 4” perforated drain pipes with protective filter socks for added redundancy
• Clean washed drainage stone surrounding the pipes
• A fully encapsulated fabric envelope to keep sediment out of the system
• A decorative river rock finish that looks great while allowing surface water to flow directly into the drain
Every drainage component ties into the main SDR outlet and safely carries water away to the storm drain.
This project required careful planning and precision excavation around existing sewer lines, water services, downspouts, landscaping, and the air conditioning unit. Protecting the homeowner’s utilities was just as important as solving the drainage problem.
When the work was complete, we restored the disturbed lawn with seed and straw, freshened up the driveway with new stone, and left the property looking clean and cared for.
At Rocky Ridge Excavation, we don’t believe in temporary fixes. We believe in understanding where the water comes from, where it’s going, and designing a system that works for years to come. Every property is different, which is why every drainage solution we install is built specifically for that site.
If your basement, crawlspace, slab-on-grade home, or yard is holding water after storms, don’t wait until the next heavy rain causes more damage.
