Their helmets are almost as big as their bodies. Their bows are almost as big as their heads.
From the stands, they look fierce. Then they run across the field like ducklings, reminding you how little they really are.
One little boy was struggling today. His coach didn’t yell, embarrass him, leave him behind, or carry him. He ran beside him and encouraged him.
The boy still had to do the hard thing. He just didn’t have to do it alone.
That’s what our children need: room to try, and someone willing to stay close.
They spend their childhood trying to prove they’re bigger than they are. Sometimes we become so proud of what they can do that we forget how little they still are.
Children don’t become resilient because life is hard. They become resilient when they learn they can do hard things without being abandoned.
Care enough to let them try. Care enough to run beside them. Care enough to prepare them for the world without making them face it alone.
Care enough.
