Today, we honor the life, character, and legacy of Orlando Rivas—a man whose actions reflected the very best of what it means to serve others.

Orlando was not only a dedicated school security officer, but a devoted husband, father of four, and a pillar in his community. He lived a life rooted in love, humility, and selflessness—working tirelessly so his family could thrive, and showing up each day with an infectious spirit that touched everyone around him.

Tragically, Orlando lost his life after stepping in to protect students during a car accident outside Buffalo Grove High School. In his final moments, he did exactly what he had always done—put others before himself. Those who knew him say without hesitation: he would have done it again.

He was a trusted and familiar presence on campus—someone who made students feel safe, welcomed, and valued. His life was defined by service, compassion, and a genuine commitment to guiding and protecting young people.

Orlando leaves behind a grieving family, including his children ranging from just 4 years old to adulthood. While no words can ease that loss, the outpouring of love and support from the community is a testament to the incredible man he was and the life he lived.

For those who wish to support his family during this difficult time, a GoFundMe has been established and has already raised over $100,000—a reflection of just how many lives Orlando impacted. Continued support, prayers, and kindness are deeply appreciated.
