Meridian Vfd This is the official page for the Meridian Volunteer Fire Department. All contributions go directly toward the department.

Meridian Volunteer Fire Department serves and is located in the county seat of Bosque County, Texas. There are currently 21 firefighters on the department which covers 135 square miles, 4 major state highways, several farm roads, and countless county roads, ranches and citizens. MVFD is very thankful to all those who support the department through fund-raising, bottled water donations or financial donations. Financial contributions are used for equipment upgrade and repairs, firefighter training, and support supplies including bottled water. Meridian Fire Department would also like to acknowledge our neighboring fire departments who we provide and receive mutual aid assistance if needed. Mutual aid provides double the resources and personnel to make sure a fire or other incident is resolved quickly and more property is preserved. Our mutual aid partners include Cranfills Gap, Iredell, Walnut Springs, Morgan, Lakeside Village, West Shore and Clifton Volunteer Fire Departments.

🔥 Bosque County’s burn ban has been lifted, but safe burning rules still apply!

Before you burn:

📞 Call the Bosque County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number to let dispatch know you will be burning. 254-435-2362

💧 Have an adequate water supply nearby and ready to use if the fire begins to spread.

🌬️ Do NOT burn on windy days. Wind can quickly carry embers and turn a controlled burn into a wildfire.

👀 Stay with your fire and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving.

Help protect your neighbors, property, and our volunteer firefighters, burn responsibly!

🔥 Grass Fire – CR 1060
Meridian VFD responded to a small grass fire off County Road 1060 this evening. The fire was quickly brought under control before it could spread very far.

We’d like to thank the landowners for their quick action in helping slow the fire’s spread before our arrival, allowing our crews to finish getting it safely under control and Clifton Texas VFD for being ready to help us out.

🔥 HYDRA FIRE UPDATE: 09/25/2026 7:30pm— 100% CONTAINED 🔥

The Hydra Fire is now 100% contained.
It is important to understand that 100% containment does not mean the fire is completely over or that crews simply walk away. Containment means firefighters have established a completed containment line around the fire and do not expect the fire to spread beyond that perimeter under current conditions.
There may still be areas inside the containment line that hold heat, smolder, or require continued monitoring. That is why patrol and monitoring remain an important part of the response even after a fire reaches 100% containment.
As of this evening, Clifton Volunteer Fire Department has taken back over patrol responsibilities and will continue to monitor the Hydra Fire as needed. Our local firefighters know this area and will continue watching for any concerns that may develop.

Please also remember that Bosque County remains under a Burn Ban, and elevated fire weather conditions are still a concern. We ask everyone to continue being extremely cautious with anything that could create a spark or start another fire.

Unless there is a significant change with the Hydra Fire, this will be my final regularly scheduled Hydra Fire update. This does NOT mean I am no longer monitoring the situation. It simply means that, with the fire now contained and transitioning back to local patrol, there may no longer be meaningful changes to report each day.

If conditions change or there is information the public needs to know, I will absolutely keep everyone informed.

Thank you to every firefighter, agency, responder, volunteer, landowner, business, organization, and community member who has supported this response. There are simply not enough words to express the gratitude I have for everyone who stepped up throughout the Hydra Fire.

And most importantly, thank you to our volunteer firefighters who will continue doing what they always do, protecting Bosque County long after the larger response has gone home. ❤️🚒

🔥 HYDRA UPDATE: 09/25/2026 11AM TRANSITION UPDATE 🔥

We have reached another important milestone in the Hydra Fire response.

Following the 7:00 PM shift today, the Texas A&M Forest Service and the task forces that have been assisting Bosque County will begin demobilizing and heading home. We cannot thank these crews enough for the tremendous amount of work they have put into helping our local departments get this fire under control.

As the state resources transition out, Clifton Volunteer Fire Department will take over patrol and monitoring of the fire area. Our local responders will continue watching the area closely and checking for any remaining heat or hotspots that could become a concern.

We anticipate the Hydra Fire may reach 100% containment as early as tonight. It is important to understand that 100% containment does NOT mean the fire is completely out or that our work is finished. Containment means firefighters have established a perimeter around the fire that is expected to stop it from spreading beyond that boundary. Crews may still need to patrol, monitor, and address hotspots inside that perimeter for some time.

Because the Hydra Fire received a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) declaration, I will also continue carefully documenting eligible fire-response activities and equipment use while necessary patrol and suppression work continues. The official FMAG incident period and eligible costs are determined through FEMA and the State of Texas based on the actual fire response, not simply by the containment percentage.

Although we are very close to an important finish line, please do not become complacent. Bosque County remains under a Burn Ban, and dry conditions mean we still need everyone to avoid activities that could start another fire.

We are incredibly grateful to the Forest Service, the task forces, our volunteer fire departments, law enforcement, EMS, county crews, private partners, landowners, volunteers, and everyone who has supported this response.

The large-scale response may be winding down, but our local firefighters will continue watching over the Hydra Fire until they are confident it is safe. ❤️🚒

Hydra Fire Update: 09/24/2026 12:00pm

What happens between 92% and 100% containment?

The Hydra Fire is now 92% contained, and we know many of you are wondering when it will reach 100%.

Containment measures how much of the fire’s perimeter has been secured so the fire is not expected to spread beyond it. That final portion can take time, especially in the rough terrain our crews are working through. Firefighters must continue checking the perimeter, finding hot spots, and strengthening areas where heat remains. Even when there are no large flames visible, there is still work to do.

As the need for outside resources decreases, the incident management team and assisting crews will begin to return home. The response will then transition back to our local volunteer fire departments, which will continue monitoring the fire and addressing any areas of concern. We will share more about that transition as it takes place.

Please don’t take the departure of outside crews to mean the fire has reached 100% containment or that our local volunteers are finished. We are deeply grateful to every crew that has helped with this fire, and to the volunteers who will continue caring for our community in the days ahead. ❤️
