Minnesota CLE provides quality education and resources for legal professionals.

Minnesota CLE seminars are offered at our state-of-the-art conference center in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, other replay locations throughout Minnesota, and online via live web casts. They include half-day, full-day, multi-day sessions, typically divided into segments of various lengths. Seminars are planned and coordinated by our staff programmers and planning committees, who work with the MSBA sections to identify topics, content, and presenters. Sessions are taught by legal professionals who generally volunteer their services. In addition to programs addressing substantive areas and legal procedures, Minnesota CLE offers programs in legal ethics, elimination of bias, law office management, and professional development. Our annual multi-day Institutes offer comprehensive coverage of developments in such areas as real estate, employment, taxation, probate and trust, intellectual property, and family law.

The final plenary sessions of the 2026 Bankruptcy Institute included "The High Cost of Low Ethics: A Review of Recent Bankruptcy Opinions Involving Attorney, Trustee and Debtor Misconduct", an ethics credit session with Jeffrey M. Bruzek and Michael J. Gieseke, and Robin Wolpert's mental health/substance use credit session "Peak Performance: The Extended Mind".

Breakout sessions filled the rest of the morning of Day 2 of the 2026 Bankruptcy Institute. We began with "AI and the Pro Se Debtor" with Nicole Anderson, Orin J. Kipp, Tricia M. Pepin, moderated by Judge Mychal A. Bruggeman; "Student Loans in Bankruptcy: A Practitioner’s Update on Treatment, Strategy and Discharge" with Heather L. Marx, Adine S. Momoh, Joshua C. Peterson and moderated by Jeffrey H. Butwinick; "Chapter 12, Part I – The Fundamentals of a Farm Bankruptcy" with Matthew Higgins, Logan M. Moore and Joseph A. Peiffer.
The day's second breakouts included "How You Can Use AI in Your Bankruptcy Practice" with Cheryl Bergian, Nicholas H. Callahan, Jack Warren and moderated by Andrew N. Page; "Who’s My Client? The Ethical Minefield of Business Debtor’s Counsel in Chapter 7" with Alexander J. Beeby and Nauni J. Manty; and "Chapter 12, Part II – Hot Topics" with Jeffrey A. Peterson added to the panel.

Day 2 of the 2026 Bankruptcy Institute has begun! After a continental breakfast, the Opening Plenary was "2026 Regional Economic Update: Signals, Trends, and What Comes Next" with St. Thomas Econ professor and pundit Tyler C. Schipper. More to come!

A baseball-themed "The Nuts and Bolts of a Subchapter V Bankruptcy Case" was the final plenary of the Bankruptcy Institute, with Judge Luis E. Rivera II and Kathleen L. DiSanto.
Then it was time for the annual Institute Reception!

Cremona and Karl J. Johnson; "Battles Over the New Chapter 13 Plan Form, Preconfirmation Hearing Procedures and Fee Applications" with Heather M. Forrest, Bradley J. Halberstadt and Matthew M. Tande; and "A Case Study of a Troubled Non-Profit – Lutheran Social Services" with Alexander J. Dybsky and Steven R. Kinsella.
The second session included "No Easy Outs: Navigating the Challenges of Subchapter V" with Judge Luis E. Rivera II, Kathleen L. DiSanto, Kesha L. Tanabe and Cynthia L. Hegarty (moderator); "Meet the New Chapter 7 Trustees, Plus Hear About Essential Updates and Best Practices" with Matthew D. Swanson, Mary F. Sieling and Patrick J. Sinner; and a "Mock Bankruptcy Proceeding – Trial of a Lender’s Non-Dischargeability Claim" with Chief Judge Laura L. Kulm Ask, Alex Cariveau, Kate Lattner, Charles E. Nelson, Amy J. Swedberg and Jason M. Reed (moderator).

Our Keynote Presentation followed with Chrystin Ondersma's "Elimination of Bias: Bankruptcy, Access to Justice, and the Right to a Fresh Start: Serving Immigrants, Non-Citizens and Other Marginalized Communities".
