We are honored to introduce Kawther Musa, M.S. as an Honorable Attendee for Somali Networking Night 2026!

Kawther Musa is a multilingual public health scholar and civic leader with more than 12 years of interdisciplinary experience in healthcare and research,
She holds a Master’s Degree in Health Science specializing in Human Nutrition and a Bachelor’s Degree with Honors in Food and Nutrition.

Kawther has served as a research assistant with The Ohio State University’s Somali Integration USA and as a community research partner with Case Western Reserve University’s Islamic Trauma Healing initiative. She is a co-author of peer-reviewed research published in Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice, and Policy and JAMA Network Open, a peer-reviewed journal published by the American Medical Association (AMA). Her research includes NIH-supported work focused on Somali communities, refugee trauma, resilience, and COVID-19.

In Columbus, Kawther has served as a Northeast Area Commissioner and Community Relations Commissioner, advocating for residents, housing access, and tenant protections. She has also organized Somali National Day and led fundraising efforts for humanitarian causes in Somalia.

She is the Director of the Ohio Somali Book Fair, promoting Somali literature, education, literacy, and cultural preservation. She is also the Principal Consultant at Elevate Consulting & Innovation Enterprises Group, LLC, advising nonprofits and small businesses on organizational growth, strategic planning, and partnerships. She also works with Heart of Ohio Family Health Center and serves on the Board of Trustees of Afrique Business Network.

Her leadership has earned recognition, including the Community Champion Award and the Global Somali Diaspora Award in Istanbul, Türkiye, presented in the presence of the Prime Minister of Somalia. Her work and story have been featured by Spectrum News 1, AfroLA, The Columbus Dispatch, The Guardian, and international media outlets.

Through her work across healthcare, research, civic leadership, entrepreneurship, and cultural preservation, Kawther continues to create meaningful opportunities for immigrants and refugees to participate, lead, and thrive.
