This week the AM-Tech team safely and successfully completed the initial pile driving operation, marking a major milestone in the Gulf State Park Pier's structural repair project.

Throughout the project, they will drive 18 piles, each 90 feet long, and install concrete caps and girders to restore the damaged structure. Specialized equipment, including a jack-up support vessel and a barge, facilitated the pile driving and construction activities.

As a subcontractor to MD Thomas, AM-Tech is committed to delivering high-quality solutions and preserving the pier's structural integrity.

Contractors sunk the first of 17 new pilings Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Up until now, the focus has been on removing all the fallen pilings from the old pier, some of which were buried as deep as 20 feet in the sand.

AM-Tech, Alabama Shipyard’s marine construction and dredging group, performed lift services recently for the MROC (Maintenance Repair Overhaul Conversion) Business Unit. Our Manitowoc 2250 Lattice Boom Crane handled multiple components that needed testing and maintenance from the USNS Comfort Hospital Ship. The Manitowoc crane lifted these components from the deck of a 180’ x 54’ x 12’ spud barge. The versatility offered by our marine equipment enhances the capability of Alabama Shipyard’s services.

In September of 2020 Hurricane Sally, a slow-moving Category 2 Hurricane, made landfall in Gulf Shores, AL. Sally moved at a crawling pace of 2MPH leading to a level of destruction that was not anticipated. The Gulf State Park Pier took a hit causing a large portion of it to be swept away. Starting in early November, the $13 million repair project will kick off to restore the pier to its original state. Am-Tech, American Marine Technical Solutions, has been awarded a major portion of this project and will be assisting the prime contractor.
Am-tech will demolish the unusable portions of the existing pier to accommodate the replacement work. We will replace the damaged or missing structure components with new pile bents, pile caps and girders. Additionally, 4 bents will require refurbishment, and 21 piles will be jacketed to complete the repairs. The electrical services, deck panels and timber guard rails will be renewed by other contractors.
We are looking forward to being a part of the Gulf State Park Pier Repair Project!

New Year, New Pier!
The installation of new steel sheet piles marked the start of AM-Tech’s first major project of 2023.
Last week, our team broke ground on a multi-million dollar pier rehabilitation project at Alabama Shipyard.
Using a Manitowoc 14000 Lattice Boom Crawler Crane and an ICE 66C Vibratory Hammer our team is installing the 110-foot long, 25,000-pound AZ-50-700 hot rolled sheet piling around the perimeter of the pier. New concrete, fenders, and utilities will be installed as well, revitalizing the old pier.
This is our second pier rehabilitation project at Alabama Shipyard; we are excited to support their efforts to modernize the World War II-era shipyard and enjoy working together to develop innovative solutions that meet their needs and the needs of their customers.
