"This business kind of chose me."

At 13, Angelo Andrews was cutting grass and the w**d eater taught him how to do lineups. At 14, he couldn't make it to the barber, so he walked into Walmart, bought the cheapest clippers he could find, and gave himself his first haircut.

What started in his neighborhood grew into something bigger. People started depending on him for their image. Image became Exclusive Blends. And that journey opens its doors downtown.

This is exactly why we showed up.
Small Business Week wasn't just events on a calendar...

Real people walking in, learning something that changed how they run their business, and walking out ready to apply it.

Jennifer said it best: "I'm going to learn something when I come here." And that's the whole point. SBOSS exists because Montgomery small business owners shouldn't have to figure it out alone. The workshops, the training, the connections...it is all here, and it is all FREE!

And here's the thing β€” if you missed it, the knowledge isn't gone. Every workshop is free and available on demand in the Dream Makers Hub. You can still access everything, on your schedule, at your own pace. So there's no excuse not to level up.

We want to hear from you. If SBOSS has been part of your journey, drop your story in the comments. πŸ‘‡ What's the one thing you learned or gained that stuck with you?

Childcare business owners, this was the room with the answers. 🧸

At Open the Door: Licensing Your Childcare Business, SBOSS connected aspiring and current providers with real guidance on licensing, DHR requirements, zoning, inspections, safety standards, and what it actually takes to open the doors.

The questions were specific. The answers were clear. And the value? Immediate.

Attendees earned their SBOSS Scorecard stamp while getting one step closer to building safe, compliant spaces for children and families.

This was the week that moved you β€” and this session helped childcare entrepreneurs move from idea to action

Some moments deserve to be celebrated. πŸ‘

During Small Business Week 2026, SBOSS had the honor of celebrating Ruby Tuck, founder and CEO of Program Management Technology Services Incorporated, as the Alabama Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year.

Ruby’s story is one of leadership, discipline, documentation, service, and building a business with values at the center. From federal contracting to workforce growth to opening doors for others, her journey reflects what is possible when small businesses are supported, prepared, and seen.

She was also honored with a proclamation from Mayor Steven L. Reed and the City of Montgomery, recognizing her extraordinary achievements and contributions to our local economy and community.

As nominations open this week for the MGM Small Business Awards, Ruby’s celebration is a reminder of why we recognize small businesses in the first place: because their impact reaches far beyond the business itself.

Congratulations again, Ruby. Montgomery is proud to celebrate you.
