The Montgomery Small Business One Stop Shop (SBOSS) offers comprehensive support services to entrepreneurs and small business owners in Montgomery City and County. SBOSS is a comprehensive initiative designed to provide critical assistance and resources to small businesses in Montgomery City and County that have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing funding allocated through the State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (SLFRF) of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), SBOSS aims to address the economic challenges faced by micro and small businesses, with a particular focus on those owned by people of color and women.

Montgomery's entrepreneurial story runs deep, and last week we got to share it with the next generation.

Last Week SBOSS welcomed Clemson University’s Antecedents of African American Entrepreneurship Study Tour to our office at the Kress Building. The tour took students through a journey of key historical sites in Tuskegee, Selma, Montgomery, and Birmingham.

They had the opportunity to explored iconic locations like the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, the Edmund Pettus Bridge, Kress on Dexter, Martha’s Place Buffet & Catering, and the Rosa Parks Museum, while learning from African American entrepreneurial leaders and supporting local businesses.

Thank you to the Clemson team for visiting SBOSS and for supporting Montgomery small businesses along the way. We were honored to share that story with these future leaders!

Last week we hosted the Food Truck and Early Child Care Intensive with a group of owners who came ready to move.

We got into the real stuff:

- Choosing your legal structure and getting through business licensing
- Sales tax, and what food trucks actually owe
- Pricing your products/services and funding your center or your truck
- Building a brand and social media, including what you can legally post before you open

Everyone left with more than just packets but phone numbers, connections, and resources that open the door to the next stage.

Thank you to the City of Montgomery, Alabama Government Business Licensing Office, Dawn Owens, and the Department of Economic Development for backing these long nights and the builders behind them.

A big thank you to the City of Montgomery Business Licensing Office, Teresa Brown and Rawshamekia Moorer, for sacrificing your time to support both of our September cohorts.

They sat down with our Food Truck Cohort on Tuesday and our Child Care Cohort last night and they answered real questions, addressed challenges business owners faced and walked our participants through what it actually takes to get licensed and start their business.
