Today is Michael Piper ’s last day at Lowe's and it’s hard to put into words the impact he’s had on my career journey.
I started with Lowe’s nine years ago, and in March 2019, I met Michael for the first time.
At the time, I was eager to learn more about military recruiting, the side of the business I felt most passionate about. Michael welcomed my curiosity, allowed me to shadow him, and gave me a firsthand look at the work he was doing to support veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses.
That experience changed everything.
What stood out wasn’t just his knowledge or expertise. It was his willingness to invest in people. He shared his time, answered questions, offered guidance, and created opportunities for others to learn and grow.
Fast forward to December 2024.
After years of growth, development, and staying connected to the military community, I had the opportunity to join the Lowe’s Military Talent team and work alongside the very person who first introduced me to this work.
Talk about a full circle moment.
Over the last eight years, Michael has left an incredible mark on Lowe’s Military Recruiting, our partnerships, and the countless veterans, military spouses, and transitioning service members whose lives have been impacted by his work. But his greatest legacy will be the people he mentored along the way.
What started as a shadowing opportunity in 2019 became one of the most meaningful full circle moments of my career when I joined his team in 2024.
Thank you, Piper, for believing in people, sharing your knowledge, opening doors, and helping others see what’s possible. Six years ago, you gave me a glimpse into the work I was most passionate about. Today, I’m grateful that our paths crossed and that I had the opportunity to learn from you, work alongside you, and continue the mission you helped build.
Wishing you and your family nothing but success in this next chapter.
