As we eagerly anticipate today's total solar eclipse, we want to address some concerns we have heard about an influx of visitors. State agencies are expecting a significant increase in visitors to Ohio, mostly in the path of totality to our north and west. While this event is expected to draw large crowds across Ohio and possible traffic congestion, the New Albany Police Department does not anticipate widespread problems locally. NAPD has consulted with relevant agencies, assessed potential risks, and has taken necessary precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors alike. Our police department has increased staffing levels in the dispatch room and on patrol shifts to effectively respond to any situation that may arise.

The last total solar eclipse visible in Ohio was in 1806. The next total solar eclipse in Ohio will be in the year 2099. Please exercise caution and patience while enjoying this once-in-a-lifetime event! You can find preparedness resources at eclipse.ohio.gov and information about events surrounding the eclipse at ohio.org/eclipse.

Due to the high risk of severe weather this afternoon and evening, the City of New Albany will be closing Village Hall at 2pm and canceling tonight’s scheduled New Albany City Council meeting. New Albany Police and Public Service staff will be using Village Hall for emergency operations as necessary. Meteorologists are forecasting the potential for dangerous weather this afternoon/evening with damaging wind, large hail, and tornadoes. Please develop a plan and be ready to put that plan in action when warnings are issued.

Work is scheduled to begin Monday, July 17, on a parking lot improvement project behind the Heit Center. The project will be divided into four phases to limit the impact on parking availability for the Heit Center and businesses in the area. Each phase of work will take between 2-3 days to complete, depending on the weather. Each phase of work will be completed and the area reopened before subsequent phases begin. We estimate that the work will take 3 weeks to complete. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation as the City of New Albany makes these important improvements to the parking lot.

Amazing addition for New Albany!

Amazing addition for New Albany!

New Albany City Council has approved a resolution to move forward with the construction of a pickleball facility! The project will be located adjacent to the New Albany Public Service facility and the Michael Lucey Memorial Basketball Courts at the northeast corner of Walnut Street and Bevelhymer Road.

The planned improvements include the construction of a playing area comprised of 16 pickleball courts, an adjacent parking lot with spaces for 68 vehicles, and landscape enhancements. The City of New Albany has set a target date of mid-June for the courts to be playable. We will share additional updates in the coming months!
