Tomorrow marks the first official federally observed holiday of Juneteenth. On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved Black people were freed in Galveston, Texas, when news that the Civil War was over reached the area. Today and this weekend, CariClub will be observing Juneteenth to celebrate, reflect and educate ourselves. Happy Juneteenth!

to when we conducted our first Accessing Diverse Board Candidates survey. We surveyed 1,000 nonprofits in hopes of better understanding why there is lack of diversity in associate boards. Here’s a recap of our findings:
-60% of nonprofits are actively recruiting to diversify their boards
-The least represented groups are Hispanic or Latino, Black or African American, and Asian
-83% of nonprofits are willing to increase their governing board size to increase diverse representation

CariClub is designed to help you find and join an associate board that aligns with your values and passions. Associate boards are groups of young professionals that serve a nonprofit through volunteering, fundraising and strategic planning.
Below are the seven easy steps to adding meaning to your work life through becoming a member of CariClub:
1. Join CariClub and fill out your profile with what interests you- select from categories such as advocacy, education, environment, etc. to help CariClub learn what you are passionate about
2. Search for nonprofits by name, cause or keyword- each nonprofit has already filled their page with their mission, programs and board opportunities for your ease
3. If you feel overwhelmed by the opportunities, ping CariClub for more recommendations or for help navigating during this process
4. Once you find a nonprofit you connect with, apply through CariClub for any open positions with the nonprofit- this involves answering two short questions to demonstrate your passion for their cause
5. A representative from the nonprofit will reach out to you through CariClub to schedule a meeting- this can be via phone, in person or possibly attending an event
6. If the nonprofit feels you are the perfect match for their organization, they will extend an offer to join their board
7. From there, it is up to you to decide whether you would like to accept or decline the offer- we know you will accomplish great things! Go forth and conquer!

Have you ever gone to an event or met someone unfamiliar or traveled somewhere new and left feeling different? Your perspective on life probably changed.

Perspectives shape how we see the world, and everyone’s perspective is different. From being raised in a different place to differing financial and social levels to who is met along the way, everyone sees the world in a different light. Seeing things differently is part of what makes every single person unique.

At CariClub, we know that joining an associate board can help people in finding new perspectives. These boards have been designed to present new responsibilities and outlooks to board members. The service that comes with being a board member pushes a person to grow as an individual.
