Prenatal care is about protecting two lives, which is why routine screenings matter so much during pregnancy. Blood pressure checks, urine tests, and glucose testing are designed to catch conditions such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes early, when they are often easier to manage.
When these conditions are missed or not properly treated, the consequences can include premature birth, birth defects, delivery complications, and harm to the mother's health. November is Prematurity Awareness Month, and Kerner & Kerner encourages expecting parents to keep a list of their test results and ask their provider what each one means. Remember, there is no bad question to ask your health care provider.
