For the women questioning WHEN to ask for compensation: THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS

I recently did work for a man who constantly added work to my plate that was outside of my contract. Everytime I would KINDLY remind him the scope of my work he would deflect and say I was “nickel and diming” him. That I should just be committed to the work for “the greater good.” I HIGHLY doubt he would have used the same rhetoric/logic with a man.

Let me tell you what the “greater good” is. The greater good is me being able to pay my rent, make my financial goals, and eat something other than eggs and rice, so that my physical and mental are in the best condition possible to perform and show up for my community.

Too often we (women) are made to feel bad or “capitalistic” or transactional in nature when we ask for what we’re worth—even when those same people are operating in self-servitude.

We’re given promises of grandeur. Promises of connections, promises of fulfillment. All in the effort to leave their pockets full.

End your relationship with clients who start your business relationship like this.
