Friday was a great day on the course and even better conversations!

United Wire was proud to sponsor and participate in the PMA Southern New England 2026 Annual PMA/CTMA Golf Outing last weekend. Events like these are a great reminder that our industry is built on more than precision manufacturing—they're built on strong relationships, and close-knit community.

A big thank you to everyone who helped organize another great golf tournament - we always appreciate the opportunity to support the organizations that help strengthen the manufacturing industry.

We're already looking forward to next year!

Packaging is often treated as an afterthought.
But in manufacturing, the way your wire is packaged can have a significant impact on productivity, material handling, and overall production efficiency.
For manufacturers running high-volume operations, continuous coil packaging can help:
✔ Reduce downtime caused by frequent coil changeovers
✔ Improve production throughput by keeping equipment running longer
✔ Minimize material handling and operator intervention
✔ Reduce scrap associated with welds and coil transitions
✔ Improve consistency throughout the manufacturing process
Sometimes the biggest productivity gains don't come from changing your equipment—they come from optimizing the materials feeding it.
If you're evaluating ways to improve manufacturing efficiency, our latest blog explores how continuous coil packaging can make a measurable difference.

When specifying flat wire, most engineers focus on dimensions, tolerances, and material selection. But there's another critical factor that can significantly impact performance: edge condition.

The shape and finish of a flat wire's edges can influence everything from coating consistency and tooling wear to fatigue life, handling characteristics, and overall product reliability. In some applications, selecting the right edge condition can make the difference between optimal performance and unnecessary manufacturing challenges.

In our latest blog post, we explore the most common flat wire edge conditions, where each is typically used, and why this often-overlooked detail deserves more attention during the design process.

Not all shaped wire is created equal — and the way it’s processed can have a major impact on performance.

In a recent blog, we break down the key differences between cold rolled wire and hot rolled wire, and why choosing the right option matters for strength, tolerances, surface finish, and overall application success.

For manufacturers working in medical, spring, stamping, aerospace, or precision applications, understanding these differences can help improve both product quality and process efficiency.

When specifying wire for a project, one detail that’s often overlooked is how the wire is processed—but it can make a major impact on performance.

At a high level, the difference between cold rolled and hot rolled wire comes down to temperature and control. Hot rolling uses high heat, making material easier to form but less precise. Cold rolling, done at or near room temperature, allows for tighter tolerances, smoother finishes, and improved strength due to strain hardening.

So why does that matter?
Cold rolled wire gives manufacturers the ability to work with:
• More precise, consistent dimensions
• Custom shapes beyond standard round wire
• Cleaner surface finishes for better performance
• Enhanced strength and durability

While hot rolled wire still has its place in high-volume, less precision-driven applications, cold rolled wire is the go-to when performance, repeatability, and quality are critical. Learn more in our most recent blog post here: https://unitedwirecompany.com/cold-rolled-wire-vs-hot-rolled-wire/
