If you know me personally at all you know that Dolly Parton was my longtime hero and style icon.
Not just because of the songs — though those will outlive all of us — but because she showed women what it looks like to build a life on your own terms. A girl from a Tennessee cabin who refused to shrink, refused to apologize for taking up space, and refused to let anyone else write her story, she made me believe that anything was possible.
She was glitter and grit in the same breath. She made being a working woman look like a crown. Dolly never pretended she was above the work. She just did it with more heart, more humor, and more backbone than almost anyone.
For every woman who has had to prove she belongs — in a wheelhouse, a laundry, a galley, a boardroom, or a brand she built from scratch — Dolly was proof that you can be fully yourself and still take the whole room with you.
Rest easy, Dolly. Thank you for the music, the laughter, and the example.
