My answer usually starts with Philippe the Original.

No, it isn’t in Pasadena, but it’s close enough and has enough Pasadena pedigree to count. Tucked between Chinatown and Olvera Street, Philippe has been serving customers since 1908 and proudly claims to have invented the French Dip sandwich.
