Warm days draw us outside, toward easy meals, fresh cut flowers, and dining tables ready for open air meals. A summer table feels best when it’s shaped by what’s close at hand: just-picked herbs, ripe fruit, and vessels filled moments before guests arrive.

It’s in these small rituals–gathering basil for pasta, setting out bowls of berries, clipping hydrangeas for the table–that the season comes into focus. Whether you’re hosting a backyard dinner or a slow afternoon lunch, below are simple ways to savor summer and bring the garden’s full expression to the table.

Restaurants Are Going Horse Girl

According to the Chinese zodiac, it’s the year of the horse — and that’s abundantly clear in hospitality.

In February, Derby Cup Coffee swung open its New York City doors with an unbuttoned approach to Kentucky Derby prep. April marked the grand reopening and rebranding of Eugene, Oregon’s 80-year-old bar and restaurant the Paddock, a former sports bar that has retained much of its tavern-like spirit (now accented with cheeky, minimalist horse drawings), but with a new menu of nostalgic dishes like eggs Rockefeller, fried oyster sandwiches, and smoked potato poutine. Set to open this August in Red Hook, Brooklyn, is Pony’s: a cocktail bar whose WIP exterior teases its ambiance with a poster of a galloping pony whose expression reads, I trot where I please.

A Meaningful Memorial Day: Tablescapes, Decor and Delicious Inspiration

Memorial Day is just around the corner! This holiday conjures up so many beginning-of-summer memories for me. Growing up in Connecticut, the end of May marked the start of better, warmer weather with longer days, a fashion thumbs up to wear white, our town’s Memorial Day parade and the end of school. Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, but more importantly, it’s a day of remembrance—for honoring those who gave their lives in service to our country. Whether you’re hosting a backyard gathering, a picnic, or a dinner at home, incorporating thoughtful, patriotic details into your tablescape, decor, and food can help set the tone for a day that’s both celebratory and respectful.

Today is , so to celebrate here are 25 Super Fun Baking Recipes!

There’s no more joyful way to spend an afternoon than baking. I do most of the cooking in our house, but baking recipes are the ones that bring Jack and me together. He might stretch a batch of pizza dough while I prep the toppings, or we’ll work together to make a jumbo tray of cinnamon rolls to devour the next morning. If you have kids, easy baking recipes are a great way to get them into the kitchen. Let them stir together brownies and lick the spoon or decorate a batch of cookies with bright sprinkles and frosting. The process might be messy, but the results will be delicious nonetheless.

It’s Time to Become an Everyday Cloth Napkin Person

I have been a cloth napkin enthusiast for years. This is hardly surprising, as I’m also a devout hanky-lover; whether I’m going to the beach, the ball park, or the club, there is always a soft cotton handkerchief in my purse for colds, spills, or makeup smudges. Similarly, my assortment of cloth napkins — some of which are holiday-themed, most of which are just cute — have been an essential part of my everyday dining routine. This vintage checkered set lives in my coffee table drawer at home for TV dinners, and I’ll also throw one of the napkins in my BAGGU carry-on during a flight, because nothing is worse than eating food in turbulence with a flimsy paper napkin, and it helps tremendously to have a tiny tablecloth on the go.

One thing about me? I love a beautiful table setting. I dream of beautiful tablescapes! There are a lot of reasons why I love it. The main reason is I always think of the dining room table as the center of the home. It’s where we make big family decisions, spend time with loved ones and make lifelong memories. While you can set gorgeous tablescapes any time of the year, Mother’s Day is such a special occasion to do so! In today’s post, I’ll be sharing a few Mother’s Day table decor and centerpiece ideas to get you started as well as some tips along the way to help you be the hostess with the mostess on this special day. The great thing about the table, whether it’s a Mother’s Day tablescape, a tea party or other holiday, is that you can set it days ahead of time so you’re not stressing on the day of the party.
