If you see this dog please read post and contact them. I lost my dog due to fireworks. She did get hit by a car and ran off. I did get here back but she needed me the day it happened not. 4 days later still stings that people had eyes on my dog but did nothing to help her. If you see this dog and things do not look normal for the dog it is probably hurt and scared it needs those that want to help it. So PLEASE if you see the dog sitting somewhere you have never seen a dog sit or lay down investigate it make sure the dog you are seeing is not hurt or needing help. Thank you!

POLL: What do you call this critter, and which Iowa county are you in? Squinny? Grinny? Chipmunk? Ground Squirrel? Alvin?

Technically speaking, this is tamias striatus, the Eastern chipmunk; tamias is Latin for "storer" and "striatus" means he has stripes. He's one of three ground squirrels in Iowa and can climb trees!

The other two ground squirrels? That's the thirteen lined ground squirrel (13 alternating black and white stripes with white spots on the stripes) and Franklin’s ground squirrel (more solid, grayish-brown color).

The giant house spider is one of our fastest invertebrates, running up to half a metre per second. This large, brown spider spins sheet-like cobwebs and pops up in the dark corners of houses, particularly in autumn.

Unlike their predecessors, whose entire life cycle could be measured in mere weeks, super generation monarchs complete the long migration marathon, acquire the remarkable ability to halt aging and then stay alive for more than eight months—the rough equivalent of a human living six centuries.

Cool looking spider. Wonder how long before we get to see one in Iowa?

The palm-sized, bright yellow arachnid first appeared in Georgia in 2013 and is slowly spreading along the East Coast.
