Interesting study on AI in hiring that employers and candidates alike should be aware of (link to study in comments).
It found that hiring algorithms favored candidates who used AI to write their resumes. For example, programs that integrate ChatGPT-40 prioritized ChatGPT-40-generated resumes 97% of the time.
This hiring practice presents some real issues. Employers are likely:
> unknowingly filtering in generic AI-generated resumes
> favoring candidates that are younger and/or socioeconomically advantaged enough to be comfortable with the technology, or have paid subscriptions for AI platforms
> de-prioritizing the critical human element of culture fit that can surface in a human-written resume
> neglecting otherwise valuable candidates because they wrote their resumes
So, it’s worth thinking about -
For job-seekers, try running your resume through an AI program before you apply for your next job if you’re not getting interviews.
For employers, consider that you may not be finding the right people - just the ones that fit the model.
