Kudos to Bella Napoli for standing with their employees - hate has no place in this world.
We get their pizza every Friday, but love them even more now.
Charlotte County - lets keep this restaurant busy!
Tonight was one of those nights that reminds you why a business is more than four walls, tables, and food.
Bella Napoli has been serving Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, and Charlotte County for 23 years. Over those years, we’ve celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, first dates, graduations, family dinners, and countless moments that have brought people together. We’ve watched children grow up, become adults, and bring their own families through our doors. We have always believed that a restaurant should be a place where everyone feels welcome, respected, and valued.
I don’t care if you’re white, black, brown, yellow, green, blue, orange, red, or purple. I don’t care where you come from, what you look like, who you love, or what your background may be. What matters to us is simple: treat people with dignity and respect.
From the day Theresa and I took over Bella Napoli, we have tried to build more than a restaurant. We’ve tried to build a family. Not just for our customers, but for every employee who has ever worn our logo, every team member who has worked beside us, and every guest who chooses to spend their time and hard-earned money with us.
I’ve always told my staff, “You never know what someone is carrying with them when they walk through that door. Treat every customer, every coworker, and every person you meet like family.”
Unfortunately, tonight an individual chose to bring hate into a place that was built on community. Homophobic slurs and hateful language were directed toward members of our team. Whether someone is drunk or sober is irrelevant. There is never an excuse for demeaning another human being.
What happened next, however, restored my faith in people.
Our staff stood together. Our customers stood together. Complete strangers stepped forward and did what was right. In a world that often feels divided, I watched a community unite to protect one another. I watched people choose courage over silence, compassion over indifference, and decency over hate.
For that, I am incredibly grateful.
I would also like to thank the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office for responding quickly and professionally to help de-escalate the situation before it became something much worse. All video and audio recordings have been provided so a full investigation can take place.
Let me be very clear: Bella Napoli will never tolerate discrimination, prejudice, bullying, or hate directed toward our staff or our guests. If that is behavior you support, this is not the place for you. You will be asked to leave and you will not be welcomed back.
To those who stood beside our team tonight, thank you. Your actions reminded us that kindness is still stronger than cruelty, and that good people still far outnumber the bad.
At Bella Napoli, we will continue to stand for respect, inclusion, family, and community. Those are not marketing words. Those are the values that built this business, and they are the values that will continue to guide us for years to come.
Because at the end of the day, we’re all human beings, bleed the same blood.
And every single person deserves to be treated with dignity.
With gratitude,
Vitangelo & Theresa Recchia
