Here’s the number I want you to sit with.

400 quadrillion.

That’s a 4 with 17 zeros behind it. More than the number of stars in the known universe.

Those are the odds of you existing. Specifically you. Your exact combination of lineage, experience, calling, and capacity to do what you do the way that you do it.

The universe had 400 quadrillion other options.

It chose you.

So can we talk about why you’re charging $150 an hour? Does that land?

I’m not saying that lightly, and I’m not trying to be snarky about it, well, maybe a little.

But here’s what I actually want you to feel when you read that number:

You were not assembled randomly.

Your acupuncture practice, your functional medicine clinic, your coaching work, your integrative medicine approach — none of it landed in you by accident. The specific way you hold a session, the specific things you see that other practitioners miss, the specific transformation your clients describe when they talk about working with you, that is not generic. That cannot be bought from anyone else.

And that fact has financial implications you may have never let yourself take seriously.

I asked a naturopathic doctor once what her hour was worth.

Twenty-three years licensed. Thousands of patients. A waiting list.

She paused. And told me she’d never actually worked it out.

And I thought, okay, here we go.

Because that answer isn’t humility. I promise you it isn’t. It’s what happens when someone spends two-plus decades believing that the more she gives away, the more devoted she is, and that wanting to actually get paid well for it somehow makes her less holy about the work.

Right?

And I want to be careful here, because I’m not talking about greed. I’m not talking about people who want to charge a lot for bad service. I’m talking about gifted, credentialed, deeply devoted practitioners who have woven sacrifice into the actual definition of what it means to care.

The idea being: if I’m struggling a little, if I’m not quite breaking even, if I’m working these hours for this amount, at least that proves I’m in it for the right reasons.

I’ve heard that out loud. More than once. In different rooms, in different languages, in 76 countries.

And here’s the thing. Your devotion to your work is real. And it has absolutely nothing to do with how little you charge.

The practitioners I’ve watched create the most lasting impact over decades of service were not the ones who gave the most away. They were the ones who built something sustainable. Something that didn’t require their depletion to function.

That’s the business we’re going to talk about.
