Happy anniversary to Jessica Pickul! For 15 years, JLA's team and clients have valued Jessica's ability to connect with people, creatively approach complex situations, and further the practice of engagement. Jessica's work has been central to public projects around the region, from the Aloha Reedville Livable Community Study to Portland’s Errol Heights Park to Bend's Midtown multimodal improvements. It’s hard to underestimate the scale of changes within our profession since Jessica joined JLA in 2011 (local governments were just starting to make use of social media; pandemics and AI were only in movies), but one thing has remained central to Jessica’s practice: people. Whether it’s listening for the best ways to support clients, having conversations with community members, or supporting JLA through development and change – we’re thankful for Jessica’s leadership!

Y2K at JLA! In recognition of the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), signed into law July 26 1990, the JLA team held a themed staff meeting - dressing from the 90s while talking about all the ways accessibility shows up in public involvement practice.

90s fashion is having a moment, but ADA has never gone out of style. From public meeting design to graphic design, web accessibility guidelines to language interpretation tools, there are so many ways we can make public communications and engagement processes more accessible and welcoming.

Must be summer! JLAers are headed out all over, stocked with easels, stickers and cookies. In the last two days, we've enjoyed talking about drinking water with folks in Medford, about the vision for a future Aquatics and Recreation Center in Oregon City, and with Happy Valley area residents about transportation system needs in Clackamas County.

WHAT A PARTY! We were thrilled to join thousands of Portlanders in celebrating the Burnside Bridge's 100th birthday. From sponsors to speeches – balloons to boats – large-scale displays to tiny legos – there were myriad details to prepare, and it was all beautiful in the end.

It was a pleasure supporting the amazing Multnomah County, Oregon – Sarah Hurwitz, Matt Studer, and Megan Neill, and working in collaboration with Christina Fuller and Jessie Smith at Fuller Events (), and Greg Cazemier with David Evans and Associates, Inc. JLA's Brandy Steffen, Franziska Elliott and Tuyen Ta will be looking forward to a summer break. (Or maybe just a weekend nap.)

JLA's taking our video and photo storytelling to new heights with FAA-certified drone services! We're bringing new angles to documenting public projects across the northwest.

Drone videography and photography is an effective way to show project context and construction progress, including for sites that don't have public access or that cover a large geographic scale.

We've frequently used drone footage within our videos, but offering drone service in-house makes it affordable and accessible for a wide range of our projects and clients.

We're so pleased to have been able to provide this service for City of Bend, City of Portland, OR, Portland Parks & Recreation, Portland General Electric, and Multnomah County,.

Our team had so much fun at Douglas supporting ’s SE Stark & Washington Street Safety Project this past weekend at the Lunar Year Celebration. This was a great event with students, families, and faculty alike celebrating Lunar New Year with vibrant performances, food, and cultural traditions. It was a wonderful opportunity to share project information and connect with the DDHS community.
