I received a note that said: "Thank you so much for expressing your interest in working with the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce. Unfortunately, we have chosen not to move forward with your proposal at this time. Though your proposal is very impressive, we are unable to fit your work into our budget. We wish you the best with your future endeavors and hope for the chance to work with each other in the future. You have been so gracefully kind; please take good care!"

While I appreciate their response, I can't help but feel a few concerns. They took weeks to get back to us, which feels like a missed opportunity for a meaningful conversation. If they found my proposal impressive, why didn’t they try to discuss the budget? It’s a reminder that there’s always room for improvement in communication.

But despite this setback, we remain optimistic!

My associate asked me if it’s worth continuing the proposals, and I firmly believe it is.

Every proposal, every endeavor, is a chance to showcase our growth and capabilities. We recently submitted another proposal for the City of Carson, and I can confidently say it’s an improvement over one I wrote several months ago.

This is what truly matters—each step forward, each lesson learned, and the commitment to becoming better at what we do. Embrace the journey, keep pushing our boundaries, and continue to believe in ourselves.

Every experience is a stepping stone to something greater!

An RFP Lesson for Those Entering This Space:

One lesson I've learned after years of pursuing public sector contracts is this: sometimes, even after you've submitted a thoughtful proposal and politely followed up to ask whether your company was awarded the contract...you never hear back.
No response. No email. No feedback.

While it may not feel professional, it's simply part of the business, and it's important not to take it personally.

The real disappointment isn't losing the opportunity—it's losing the opportunity to learn.

Was our proposal fully compliant? Was our pricing too high? Did we overwrite the narrative? Should we have provided more detail or less? Those insights help companies improve, become more competitive, and submit stronger proposals the next time.

My hope is that more municipalities and public agencies do Better. To provide constructive feedback whenever possible. Even a few comments can make a meaningful difference to small businesses investing significant time and resources into responding.

At the end of the day, preparing an RFP takes dedication. You research, write, refine, gather documentation, review compliance, and then...you hit Submit and hope for the best.
That's the process.

Learn what you can. Keep improving. Don't take rejection personally. And most importantly—keep showing up for the next opportunity.

We created this short film to give potential partners a genuine glimpse into my daughter’s world — and her deep love for ballet.

What might appear to be a hobby is anything but. Ballet has shaped her into someone who understands discipline, resilience, sacrifice, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.

These aren't just dance values — they're life values. And they're the same values that the world's most respected brands are built on.

That's exactly why we made this.

We believe the right brand will see what we see — a 16 year old whose story is still being written, whose audience is growing, and whose values align naturally with brands that stand for something more than a transaction.

We're not looking for a one-off paid post. Isabella is already blessed with endorsements.

We're looking for a partner.

One that is interested in a long-term storytelling relationship — a brand willing to grow alongside her as her platform, her artistry, and her influence continue to evolve.

I believe brands that move culture don't just sponsor moments. They invest in people and stories. Isabella is that kind of investment.

ELLAGLIFE.

The biggest disruption in AI isn't that it can generate ideas.
It's that it has dramatically reduced the cost of exploring them.
Twenty years ago, testing a creative concept could take weeks. Today, it can take minutes.
Take this animation as an example. It was created in less than an hour.
Impressive? Sure.
But that's not the story.
The real story is what happens when organizations can rapidly visualize ideas, test concepts, and communicate faster than ever before.
Because at DVC, we don't exist to create content.
We exist to solve communication challenges.
Need to inspire employees? Recruit talent? Energize customers? Align leadership? Build community trust? Drive adoption of a new initiative?
That's where we come in.
Content is the vehicle.
Strategy is the value.
For more than 28 years, we've helped global brands, municipalities, and organizations turn complex messages into meaningful connections that move people to action.
Technology changes.
Human connection doesn't.
Our mission remains the same: help organizations communicate with clarity, authenticity, and purpose.
That's why we exist.
To strengthen brands, amplify stories, and create the kind of engagement that drives real results.
If you'd like to see how some of our clients are using storytelling, video, and emerging technologies to connect and grow, let's talk.

One of the most fascinating things happens when you sit down for an in-depth interview with someone.

If you listen carefully enough, they eventually tell you what's really on their mind.

Over the years, I've conducted hundreds of branded profile interviews, and one lesson continues to surprise me: great stories don't always come from great questions.

I know interviewers who are masters at asking probing questions, and the results are remarkable.

My approach is different.

I become quiet.

Much quieter than I am in everyday life.

And I've learned that when you give people space, they almost always fill it.

The silence becomes an invitation.

They begin sharing the things that matter most to them—the experiences that shaped them, the challenges they overcame, the philosophies they live by, the lessons they've learned, and sometimes even the secrets they've never planned to tell.

The best interviews aren't interrogations.

They're conversations built on trust.

My process usually starts long before the camera rolls: a pre-interview, a few texts, a little humor, and a reminder not to take ourselves too seriously.

From there, the story tends to find its way.

And after hundreds of interviews, I've come to believe that storytelling is less about extracting information and more about creating an environment where people feel comfortable enough to reveal who they really are.

I'd love to hear how others approach interviews and storytelling. If you're in this world too, reach out and share your process.

I'm always learning.

The biggest shift in AI isn't that it can create ideas. It's that the cost of exploring new ideas has become incredibly low.

Take this video for example. It took less than an hour to create, and its purpose was simple: promote DVC.

But here's the thing...

We don't exist to create content.

We exist to solve problems.

Whether it's helping a brand communicate more effectively, energize customers, engage constituents, recruit talent, train employees, or align internal teams, our role is to help organizations tell stories that matter and achieve results. That's IT!

Content is simply the tool. Strategy is the value.

For more than 28 years, we've helped brands, municipalities, and organizations communicate with clarity, emotion, and purpose.

That's why DVC exists.

To support, strengthen, and galvanize the brands we serve.
If you'd like to see examples of our work, reach out. We'd be happy to share how our clients continue to use storytelling to connect, engage, and grow.

What were we thinking? 😂

A full fight scene on the back of a pickup truck… driving through actual streets in the Hollywood Hills.

Sure. Let’s do it.

Several decades ago, Robert, Ken, George and I — along with an incredibly dedicated crew of filmmakers — made “Deadly Diversions” over the course of nearly 9 weekends.

We had:
🎬 Over a dozen actors
🥷 Ninjas & wrestlers
📍 Tons of locations
💸 Almost no budget
🔥 And just enough crazy ambition to believe we could pull it off
And somehow… we did.

The film sold into several territories. Did it put us on the map?

Maybe not.

But it taught us everything about hustle, creativity, problem solving, friendship, and independent filmmaking.

Back then, nobody told us what we couldn’t do… so we just kept filming.

A little embarrassed posting this 😅

Back in 1992, if you wanted investors to believe in your movie, the advice was: shoot a trailer first. So that’s what we did.

“Crusade” — shot on 16mm film, one long day, a dozen actors, several locations, and a whole lot of favors. No money. Just ambition and probably too much confidence.

Funny thing is… those scrappy little projects usually teach you the most.Looking back, these little “test projects” end up teaching you the most.

And honestly, despite all the technology creators have today, the formula still feels the same: good people, big dreams, and figuring it out as you go.
