Hear from HBAV CEO Craig Toalson, CAE on the latest Virginia housing trends.

In a new video, Toalson breaks down the latest permitting trends, key findings from HBAV's Virginia Housing Trends Brief and what the data mean for housing across the Commonwealth.

The latest Brief found that Virginia localities issued permits for 11,137 new homes during the second quarter of 2026, a 37.1% increase from the same period last year, driven largely by a rebound in multifamily construction.

The Virginia Housing Trends Brief examines permitting activity, housing starts, home sales, mortgage rates and builder confidence across the state.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

The 4 Pillars of Housing Affordability session will be a moderated panel on how private industry, local government, the nonprofit community, and the people we serve can work together to create permanently affordable homes - with a real, replicable story of nearly 60 homes built in the Charlottesville region.

Meet the Panel!
🔸Keith Smith - Moderator, Piedmont Community Land Trust
🔹Ashley Davies, Riverbend Development
🔸Laura Vaden, Stanley Martin Homes
🔹Ned Gallaway, Albemarle County Board of Supervisors

Let's face it — when we talk about housing affordability, there can be a healthy dose of skepticism. More regulation? Less margin? More complexity? Who is really responsible for solving it? This panel is about a different path.

No theory. No finger-pointing. Just a real conversation about what worked, what didn't, what each pillar brought to the table, and how stronger partnerships can create projects, buyers, resources, and opportunities that might not otherwise happen.

What you'll take away
• A clearer understanding of how the pieces fit together
• A better sense of where you and your business can plug in
• A few practical ideas you can take back and actually use
• A sense of who you need to get around the table

Whether you build 5 homes a year or 500 — or work in government, the nonprofit community, lending, or real estate — the goal is the same: help you find opportunity and be part of the solution.
