FIVE YEARS. A WHOLE HAND!!!! 🖐️😭🩷
Five years ago today, I started a business.
Right after COVID.
With one little kid at home.
In a small town in Iowa.
And a whole lot of people probably thinking I had lost my mind. 😂
I didn’t know exactly what this business would become.
I just knew I was supposed to start.
And thank GOD I listened.
Because somewhere in those five years, that one little kid became two. The business grew. Our family grew. I grew.
And somehow, in between babies, daycare, farm life, client calls, late nights, early mornings and figuring things out as I went… this little business became something pretty freaking incredible.
In five years, I’ve…
🩷 Built WMM from the ground up
🩷 Grown from just ME to an incredible TEAM
🩷 Hired some ridiculously talented people
🩷 Worked with businesses and business owners I never dreamed I’d get to work with
🩷 Been accepted into Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses
🩷 Become a Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Ambassador
🩷 Built + launched GrowthIQ — our own AI-powered platform
🩷 Created new services, partnerships and opportunities I couldn’t have imagined five years ago
🩷 Rebranded, pivoted, changed my mind, screwed things up, learned from it and kept going 😂
🩷 Stepped WAY outside my comfort zone and into rooms five-years-ago me would have been terrified to walk into
🩷 Built a network of some of the smartest, kindest and most driven people I know
🩷 Gotten more involved in the community my family calls home — and somehow ended up PRESIDENT of Main Street 😉
🩷 Had opportunities to speak, lead, mentor and help other business owners grow
🩷 And built a company that continues to grow right alongside me.
But maybe my favorite thing this business has given me isn’t something I can put on a list.
It’s given me a seat at tables I never knew existed.
It’s connected me to people I never would have met.
It’s given me a way to pour into my community.
It’s shown my kids what it looks like to build something from an idea.
And it’s pushed me to become a version of myself I don’t think I ever would’ve met otherwise.
But there’s a really important part of this story I will NEVER leave out.
When I decided to do this, I had the best guidance there ever was.
People who believed in me before I had much to show for it. People who answered my questions, pushed me, opened doors, made introductions and reminded me to keep going when entrepreneurship felt a whole lot less glamorous than Instagram makes it look.
I will never pretend I built this completely by myself.
I didn’t.
And maybe that’s one of the biggest things these five years have taught me:
You can bet on yourself AND let people help you along the way.
WMM looks completely different than the business I started five years ago.
And so do I.
There have been really freaking high highs and some what the hell am I doing lows. 😂 But through every version, I kept showing up.
And five years later?
I think I’m more excited about what we’re building than I’ve ever been.
Because if THIS is what happened in the first five years…
Just wait until you see what we do with the next five. 🩷
Happy 5th birthday, WMM.
A WHOLE HAND!!!! 🖐️🥹
And to every single person who has hired us, referred us, shared a post, answered a question, worked alongside me, opened a door, believed in one of my crazy ideas or simply cheered me on—
Thank you.
