Some of our favorite moments at the Women of Influence Summit aren't on the agenda. They happen in the hallways, at the lunch tables, and in the vendor marketplace: women who just met swapping stories, trading encouragement, and leaving as friends.

There's no competition in that room. Just genuine support.

What does success really mean to you?

It's a simple question, and many women leaders have never stopped to answer it on their own terms.

Becky Estby recently joined Crystal Petry on The Crystal Petry Podcast to talk about success, confidence, and the beliefs that hold us back.

A few ideas from the conversation:

💜 Confidence is more than a feeling. It's a belief in yourself, which is different from ability, though we need both.
💜 We're conditioned to doubt ourselves. Many of us learned it as young girls, long before we had a title.
💜 Confidence is often tied to one area. You can feel sure in the boardroom and unsure in another part of your life.
💜 Limiting beliefs are often the real culprit. They're stories we absorbed, not facts, and we can question them.

Great experts don't automatically become great leaders.

In many organizations, people earn their way into leadership by mastering their craft. They know the work inside and out. But then we hand them a team, and too often we don't hand them the training and support to lead it. Leading people is a different skill set from doing the work, and we shouldn't expect anyone to figure it out alone.

Last Monday, Next Monday hosted NextUp! Protect Yourself, With Confidence, a hands-on women's self-defense course at the St. Cloud Police Department. 💜

Our instructors, Sergeant Debora Ocloo and Officer Taylor Storz, taught awareness, prevention, and practical technique in a welcoming room for every experience level. A few takeaways:

- Know GROUT: Gender, Race, Over/Under (clothing on the top and bottom), Tall (height). These details are critical when identifying someone for law enforcement.

- Use your voice. Yelling adds power behind your moves. (Shout NO, STOP, GET AWAY FROM ME)

- Practice in your mind. Your body can't go where your mind has never been. Visualize what you would do if you needed to defend yourself.

- Target weak points. When countering an attack, go for vulnerable areas like the joints (knees, elbows) and the eyes.

💗 Schedule your mammogram or screening
💗 Talk with your doctor about your personal risk and when to start
💗 Do the check-in with yourself you keep saying you'll get to

Then share this with a woman in your life who needs the nudge. You don't have to do it alone. Book it together.

Before you walk into that meeting, that conversation, or that inbox, try this: get curious.

When we go in knowing the answer, we stop listening. We defend, we assume, we react. But when we lead with curiosity, something shifts. There's room to learn, room to connect, and room to breathe.

Good questions open doors that certainty keeps closed:
💜 What am I missing here?
💜 What might they be seeing that I'm not?
💜 What do I actually know, and what am I assuming?

So when you feel certain, ask one more question.

And when you feel angry or emotional, pause. There's something you don't know yet. That feeling isn't a stop sign. It's a signal to get curious.

As you head into this week, choose one moment to pause and ask instead of assume.
