🚨 FIREFIGHTERS’ MEMORIAL SUNDAY 🚒

This morning came together with family, friends, community members, and local leaders to hold our annual Firefighters’ Memorial Sunday ceremony. This event honors those that came before us and shaped the fire service into what it is today. In addition to honoring those we have lost in the line of duty, we recognized two retirees who passed this year, retired Deputy Chief John Munroe and retired Lieutenant George Croteau. We appreciate the presence and words from our local leaders, including but not limited to; Mayor Dominick Pangallo, District Attorney Paul Tucker and Senator Joan Lovely.

Numerous members were also recognized for years of service to the department.
5 Years: Steve Baccari, Fernando Baez, Taylor Charlton, Michael Croke, Matt Lawhorne, Chad Masse, Chris Nadeau, John O’Leary, Brandon Payne, Tyler Rybicki
10 Years: Johnny Encarnacion, Mike Levesque, W***y Nolasco, Ray Rust
15 Years: Phil Lohnes
25 Years: Scott Austin, Pat Burke, Tom Brophy, Wayne Silva

Also recognized were Dickie Thomas and Thomas Williams, who received a Meritorious Conduct Award for their actions in rescuing a trapped occupant at a second alarm house fire in March.

Congrats to all members who were recognized, and a big thank you to all who attended to help us celebrate and honor this important day.

🚒 CHANGING OF THE GUARD 🚒

This morning from Division 3 completed the final equipment mounting and stocking for the brand new Engine 4. The new truck, a Pierce Saber, was placed into service shortly after. Members have spent the past month training with the new apparatus and getting used to its new features while the department mechanic completed final touches and equipment installation.

We’re grateful to be able to use this new, state-of-the-art equipment to better serve the citizens and visitors of Salem.

Fun Fact: With the delivery of this Engine, this is the first time a Pierce Engine and Ladder have operated out of the same station since 2000, when then Engine 1 and Ladder 1 ran out of headquarters.
