We are so excited to announce the inaugural winner of the Em Scout Carr Memorial Scholarship - Gender Health Center out of Sacramento, California. Not only does this organization support and uplift harm reduction in their communities, but they do so while centering the lives and experiences of Q***r, Transgender, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (QTBIPOC).

Everything about this organization, and the work they do, shines light on the life and legacy of our dear Em, and we are honored that we get to work alongside such an incredible organization. We truly believe that Em played a part in bringing us together; this would have been the project of their dreams.

This one is for you, Em. We miss you every day. šŸ’›

Em Carr, affectionately known as Scout in North Carolina’s activist communities, was an incredible community organizer, and passionate supporter of harm reduction. Em passed away unexpectedly in September 2024, leaving a huge gap in our hearts, and in the world.

In honor of Em’s work and care for the lifesaving work of harm reduction, The Capacity Collective is proud to offer up to 25 hours of FREE capacity building consulting to work on a data project that furthers the work of one harm reduction organization each year. The application for the 2026 scholarship will be open August 31, 2025 - October 10, 2025.

The Capacity Collective is a small but mighty team of ā€œcompassionate nerdsā€ who came together to support community-based organizations in leveraging the power of data to celebrate their successes, demonstrate their impacts, innovate their services, and advocate for social change. We were honored to work and learn with Em for nearly 5 years, and miss them every day.

It is with broken hearts that we share with you that our beloved colleague, Em Carr, was taken from us this past weekend.

Em was everything you could ever dream of having as both a colleague and friend. They were the chosen family that we needed and they served as a crucial part of our team here at The CC. Our small family still isn’t sure how we’re going to possibly move forward without our Em.

We would like to also share with you that starting in 2025 The Capacity Collective will be begin offering the Em Carr Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will be offered to one nonprofit organization each year that supports and uplifts harm reduction within their communities. The scholarship will provide this nonprofit, free of charge, the data capacity building supports they need to tell their stories within their community. This is some of the work Em cared most deeply about (and was so, so good at) and we are honored to do what we can to help keep their legacy alive. More details to come.

Please also consider donating to the Abortion Care Network, another cause near and dear to Em’s heart.

We love you, our sweet friend. We will miss you forever. Rest well. šŸ’›

We were honored to participate in this much-needed conversation about data autonomy and ownership and the powers held by funders of community-based organizations. It’s time to recenter community and give these organizations the space to collect and analyze the data needed to amplify their true story and impact.

Special thanks to Ron Waddell, Marybeth Campbell, and the team at Legendary Legacies Inc. We can’t wait to see what comes next!

We are super excited to announce the next chapter of work here at The Capacity Collective. Over the next year, we will be working with community-based organizations throughout King County to support the development of Prenatal to Five Culturally Relevant Measurement Tools. Data and evaluation do not come as 'one size fits all' and we are looking forward to the opportunity to help CBO's measure their strengths and resilience in ways that best represent the communities they serve.

It is an honor and a privilege to continue this work with Best Starts for Kids and our capacity building partners, Cardea Services! āļø

We are glad to announce our awardees for 2 data and evaluation projects supporting Best Starts prenatal to five programs!
