I have a Sharon Gault story.

When I was publishing 1stHOLD magazine, our last shoot was a cover featuring a ton of great artists. Sharon Gault was one of them.

It was quite a production.

Everybody was acting like a diva.

One makeup artist asked for a limo to pick her up.

One of the stylists was busy complaining and running up the phone bill at Smashbox Studios. Remember toll calls? 😂

Sharon came in, took one look at the stress on my face, and asked me what was going on.

When I told her about the fashion stylist who was acting out, she just shook her head and squeezed my arm.

After she was dressed and ready for the shot, she looked right at him and made an announcement to the entire group about how important it was that they support me in this endeavor.

I didn’t have any more drama outta’ him after that.

I didn’t see Sharon often, but I never stopped thanking her for that moment.

Sharon was also the subject of the very first issue of 1stHOLD, in an article I titled “Mama Makeup.”

She was an absolute force.

Crazy creative.

And sometimes, just plain crazy. 😂

RIP, Sharon. You will be missed.

The elevator to success is broken. Take the damn stairs.

Stop waiting for the shortcut, or to be discovered.

And don’t assume that somebody else got there overnight.

Most of the people you think “came out of nowhere” have been working, failing, learning, asking, building, and trying again for years.

Because that’s what you do on the stairs.

You build the muscle to ask for the next opportunity, and you figure s**t out because waiting for someone to hand you the next great thing is a gambler’s move.

So if you’ve been waiting for something to happen, here’s your word for today:

Get up. Open the door. Take the damn stairs.

Don’t just scroll. Think about it. What’s one step you can take today?

If YOU believe this is important, you’ll have to share it. IG said it’s too long and they won’t share it with new audiences.

In light of what’s going on in the world, including the incident at Cornell, where it appears the women in charge ‘may’ not stand up for the woman who was assaulted.

This needs to be said: When Women Don’t Support Other Women

There’s something we don’t talk about enough.

What happens when a woman is being diminished, disrespected, or thrown under the bus—and other women in the room say nothing?

We like to think silence keeps us out of it. But it doesn’t. It’s another form of consent.

I know that speaking up isn’t always easy. I’ve been in rooms and situations where a paycheck is on the line, access looks closer than ever, a promotion is right around the corner, or a relationship you’ve been nurturing feels like it could go right down the drain if you don’t keep your mouth shut.

But the cost of not speaking up, and saying no, or this is not okay, can be so very high, and we all pay for not sticking together.

Because when women don’t support other women, a man’s job is done.

When men can use us to police each other with shame, or guilt or fear, even when they’re not around, their job is done.

So the next time you’re in the room, remember this:

Your silence is not neutral. It’s a vote.

And every time you don’t use your voice for the woman standing next to you, you’ve used it anyway.
Just not for her.

Sometimes the biggest thing standing between you and your next level is the story you keep telling yourself.

Naeemah Lafond was already talented, working and a successful creative director.

She was already reaching out to agencies. But they were below where I believed she belonged.

I told her to stop. We gotta aim higher. You belong at The Wall Group.

She told me she had already emailed them once and they hadn’t responded.

My answer was basically: So what’s our next move?

Lets find a new way in. She reached out. They responded, and the rest is history.

One of the things I do best as a coach, is see the bigger possibility while you’re still standing too close to your own life to see it clearly.

What comes next is my challenge for you to act on the possibility by not stopping or giving up. Confidence is not built by standing around and just looking at the problem, it’s built with small acts of every day courage –– like believing in yourself by taking the step that rattles you.

Sometimes courage is accepting someone [your coach] to say: The story you’re telling yourself is too small. Let’s fix that.

If you’re accomplished, experienced, and know there is another level for you—but you need clarity, strategy, accountability, and somebody who will tell you the truth without sugarcoating it—I’d like to talk to you.

2 Capfuls of 7NN

I like it. However I think 1 Capful of the 7NN would have given me the depth without so much dark around my face.

That said, it’s only color and I can adjust it again in a few weeks.

What do y’all think? I plan to make an adjustment with a little more 8NN the next time I wash it.
