Botanical DNA testing no longer has to mean one test, one answer.
With next-generation sequencing and the LeafWorks NGS Platform, a single sample preparation can generate digital sequencing data that supports multiple layers of analysis.
That means the same sequencing output can support species identification and adulteration detection today—and provide a foundation for additional analytical workflows as they are developed.
Even more importantly, the data can be revisited later.
We call it “evergreen data”: Reusable DNA information that can be reanalyzed as testing needs evolve, without necessarily starting over with an entirely new sequencing workflow.
It’s a shift from DNA testing as a one-time endpoint to DNA as a flexible analytical platform.

Take a closer look at LeafWorks’ newest services in our recent blog: microscopy and macroscopy testing is now live at LeafWorks!

These new services are led by Kirsten Tripplett, Ph.D., an expert microscopist and botanist with decades of experience in medicinal plant identification, botanical method development and dietary supplement quality control.

Microscopic and macroscopic analysis can be used to:
• Identify botanical species and plant parts
• Detect adulterants, contaminants, filth and foreign matter
• Evaluate raw, powdered, chopped and whole botanical ingredients
• Document diagnostic botanical structures through digital imaging
• Support ingredient specifications, production records and substantiation files

These services may be used independently or combined with LeafWorks’ genomic testing as part of an orthogonal identification program. By combining DNA with botanical morphology, companies can obtain a more complete understanding of ingredient identity, composition and quality.

Microscopy and macroscopy testing is available now through LeafWorks.com

🌿 LeafWorks is proud to be partnering with NOW as its DNA testing provider for botanical identity testing.
Through this first-of-its-kind collaboration, NOW is bringing next-generation DNA sequencing into its testing program while connecting directly to LeafWorks’ purpose-built genomic analysis platform.

Instead of building everything in-house, NOW:

✔️ Performs DNA sequencing internally
✔️ Sends data to LeafWorks for advanced analysis
✔️ Receives high-confidence results through Certificates of Analysis (COAs) backed by a purpose-built genomic platform

The result?
A faster, more scalable and more accessible approach to verifying botanical ingredients — especially in complex products.
We’re proud to call NOW a LeafWorks client and to support its continued leadership in botanical quality testing through this first-of-its-kind partnership.
