LeafWorks in the news! 📣

A recent study published in BMC Complementary Medicines and Therapies (Wirasathien et al., 2026) found adulteration and misrepresentation of cordyceps supplements sold in Thailand. SupplySide Supplement Journal discusses the resulting implications for product verification in the domestic market, and how LeafWorks’ Functional Fungi DNA ID tests are uniquely able to fill the testing gap.

“Quality experts said the results of the study should serve as a wake-up call for companies sourcing these ingredients and marketing products in the domestic market. …In the absence of agreed-upon chemical analysis methods, a plant genetics company has stepped up to help fill the gap. LeafWorks, a company that originally worked on the genetics of cannabis strains, has lately added a suite of DNA methods for fungal products. The assays work across a wide variety of matrices and product types, said co-founder Eleanor K***z, Ph.D.”

We’re excited for Day 3 of ICSB Oxford 2026! Join LeafWorks’ Nick Batora at 1:00-1:20pm today in OCC Auditorium, to learn about Canndor Herbarium, the first dedicated cannabis herbarium. Founded in 2016, Canndor provides a lasting repository for the taxonomic, genetic, and morphological diversity of cultivars and landraces within the species. Included in this talk:

-A case study using herbarium vouchers collected from 2017 through 2022 to investigate natural variation in leaf morphology.
-A highlight of the expanding utility of the herbarium for studies that rely on accurate cultivar identification, including its essential role in confirming clonal identity for field and greenhouse experiments, where ensuring that plants are true to type is critical for reproducible results, meaningful comparisons across studies, and enforcement of material transfer agreements.
