Free virtual workshop this Saturday, 9/12, 10am-1pm. Hear from a Washington State divorce attorney, a Certified Divorce Lending Professional, a therapist and a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst.

Our state’s workshop is run out of Clark County (Vancouver, WA), but the info is applicable state-wide.

I can't believe it was more than 20 years ago that I moderated my first local candidate forum!

Last Tuesday, I had the privilege of stepping back up to the podium at the Port Ludlow Beach Club as moderator for the League of Women Voters' Jefferson County primary election forum for the candidates for County Commissioner.

The League chair introduced me by mentioning I got into this role as a result of reporting for the Leader newspaper and gaining a reputation for "even-handedness"—and that through the pandemic I helped lead many of the League's "Zoom forums." Although they take more time out of my busy schedule, I really do prefer the in-person forums. They energize me.

What energized me most, though, was looking around the room on Tuesday.

The candidates brought thoughtful ideas, respect for one another, and a genuine commitment to public service. Two of them are younger than I am (!), and I left feeling optimistic about the next generation of local leadership.

In a time when national politics often dominates the conversation, I'm reminded that local government is where decisions touch our everyday lives most directly. These races matter. The people who serve on county commissions shape our communities in tangible ways.

Volunteering as a moderator is one small way I can help create a space where voters hear directly from candidates and make informed decisions. I'm thankful to the League of Women Voters for the opportunity to lead in this way, and to everyone who participated in making the forum possible.

If you're eligible to vote in the August 4 primary, I hope you'll take the time to learn about your local candidates and cast your ballot.

Because local politics is where it's at.

Launching this month: Upward Club, my community for moving onward and upward, through divorce and beyond.

After a 4-month group coaching pilot last fall and lots of clients asking "when will Empower Hours return?", I magicked a bigger, better version of that experience.

The monthly rhythm includes two 💡Empower Hours (open coaching roundtables), a 📈 Monthly Training that will be recorded, and a fun social gathering the last Friday of the month called Thrive Time, aka ☕ Coffee & Community.

The bigger vision: People at different stages of divorce and post-divorce life gathering together, learning from one another, and building an upwardly trending future. ⤴

For now, it's invitation-only for my current clientele.

Tomorrow is my first "Empower Hour" open coaching roundtable. Am I excited?

Last week I opened my doors to celebrate some meaningful milestones: five years in my home office, my 50th birthday, and earning my Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA) designation.

What I expected to be a casual two-hour drop-in open house turned into a three-hour gathering because no one wanted to leave.

Fifteen colleagues, referral partners, clients and friends filled my home with conversation, laughter, and new connections. Around the room were financial advisors, attorneys, coaches, a Realtor, a CPA, and a bookkeeper—all people who support clients through life’s transitions in different ways.

Instead of listing job titles on our name tags, I invited everyone to write how they support people through change. Some of my favorite answers were “Good listening” and “Fierce advice.”

I ordered a shiny gold nametag for myself through Etsy with the title of “Divorce Financial Strategist”—proud to claim that!

One of the greatest joys was watching people meet each other for the first time. An estate planning attorney new to town getting to know a financial advisor. Coaches connecting with other coaches. New conversations beginning around my kitchen bar.

Someone described me that evening as “a connector,” and that’s a meaningful compliment for me.

As I reflected afterward, I realized this gathering wasn’t really about celebrating me. It was about celebrating the community of care we’ve built together and the privilege of walking alongside people during some of life’s biggest transitions.

Thank you to everyone who came, brought a birthday card, made a new connection, and helped make the evening so memorable.

I have a feeling this may become an annual summer tradition. ❤️

To the grads 🎓 and those divorcing, a little love letter:

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

Just stop and think about that.

Although this is true every day, today it seems more poignant. It’s graduation night at my local high school, and a hundred eager young people will be closing one chapter and turning to the blank page of a new one.

My divorcing friends and clients know this feeling very well.

Many face the blank page with uncertainty at best, and dread at worst.

Usually, it’s the financial blank that is most worrisome.

That’s where I come in, as a financially focused divorce coach who provides clarity on your new reality, as well as what’s possible.

I just sent this image to a brand new client who made her decision today to include me on her divorce preparation team. I’m beyond excited to work with her, before she even announces to her spouse that she’s contemplating this change.

Today is indeed a memorable first day.

May the high school graduates — and YOU as well — look back on today and be glad for the choices you made.

Congrats to the Class of 2026! 🎊

In the dark about divorce, and what to expect?

When a client uttered these words on a coaching call last week, she spoke the truth.

“I can’t imagine how I would’ve gotten through this without you. It would be like going totally blind.”

Ouch.

We were working together on one of my organizing tools that I call the Attorney Backgrounder. It helps you tell your story succinctly, present your most urgent questions, and be recognized as an ideal client by the attorneys you interview.

And her email this morning made me smile: “You are Godsent!”

You simply don’t know what you don’t know about this process, which is highly emotional, fundamentally legal, and very, very financial.
