Dr. Barnell sat down with the StudioSTL team to discuss this year's theme, "Edge of Possible," which spotlights innovative voices in the community. In her upcoming talk, titled "Four Words Between You and Cancer," she will explore how leaning into uncomfortable conversations and breaking down traditional public health barriers can completely transform early disease detection and prevention.

A Historic Milestone for Colorectal Cancer Screening

We are proud to announce that the American Cancer Society (ACS) has updated its colorectal cancer screening guidelines to include ColoSense® as a preferred stool-based testing option!

This update marks the first time a noninvasive RNA-based test has been included in ACS screening guidelines for detecting colorectal cancer and advanced adenomas in average-risk adults aged 45 or older. Widely considered a gold standard in oncology and public health, the ACS guidelines are developed by top experts who evaluate only the highest-quality evidence to assess real-world impact.

"ColoSense combines clinical accuracy with a patient-friendly experience and can help identify patients most at risk of cancer progression" notes Andrew Barnell, CEO and co-founder.

To drive broader provider and patient adoption, our strategic collaboration with Labcorp will expand access to ColoSense in the coming months, utilizing Labcorp’s extensive nationwide network to make this advanced screening option widely available.

With 41% of adults aged 45 and older still unscreened, this guideline update is a critical step forward in making accurate, at-home screening approachable and reliable.

What does your day-to-day look like?
I spend lots of time working through procurement, AP, reimbursement, financial reporting and support across all functions of the finance team.

What is the most rewarding part of working at Geneoscopy?
I get to spend time working with intelligent and hard working employees who care about one another and care about the mission.

Our team spent last week in Chicago at the world's premier meeting for GI professionals at Digestive Disease Week. We were thrilled to present our latest research on colorectal cancer screening and IBD diagnostics, showcasing that non-invasive, RNA-based technology is changing the game for patients.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our posters to discuss our findings. Our team left Chicago more motivated than ever to continue our work in expanding access to early, accurate screening.

Advancing the Conversation in the Southeast!

Our team had an impactful week at the SouthEastern Colorectal Cancer Consortium! It was an honor to join fellow advocates, clinicians, and innovators dedicated to reducing the burden of colorectal cancer across the region.

A major highlight was a presentation by our CMO, Dr. Erica Barnell, who shared insights on the evolving landscape of screening. With stool-based testing being a key topic of discussion this year, we were proud to showcase how ColoSense™ and our RNA technology are helping to bridge the gap in patient compliance and early detection.

From the breakout sessions to the giant inflatable colon, the energy was clear: we are all in this together to outwork cancer. Huge thanks to our team members Ryan, Ann, Ellen, who were on the ground connecting with providers to make non-invasive screening more accessible for everyone.

We recently opened our doors to a bright group of local students for a look at life inside a growing biotech company. While our team spends most of their time analyzing RNA and supporting the growth of Geneoscopy, they had a great time changing that up and sharing their career journeys with these future innovators.

From touring the lab to talking through the different paths in STEM, ranging from molecular biology to software engineering, it was an inspiring day for the visitors and our team. We are grateful to Matthew Schindler for bringing this great group of young minds to visit the office.

St. Louis is a world-class hub for bioscience, and we’re proud to play a part in cultivating the next generation of talent right here at home.
