Facebook memories got me again today.

Ten years ago, I had the honor of co-facilitating CABA’s Meet the Candidates event alongside Dr. Barry Shapiro, a founding member of the Carrollwood Area Business Association.

At the time, I don’t think I fully appreciated what it meant. I just knew I was grateful.

Dr. Shapiro had been leading this event for years, and I still remember someone suggesting that I join him. It was an honor to even be mentioned, let alone trusted by the board to step into that role.

And now, he’s preparing to do it again this year.

To every candidate who is stepping up to serve on the CABA Board: thank you. Your willingness to raise your hand, invest your time, and help create opportunities for other businesses to grow says a lot about who you are, regardless of the election results.

Leadership isn’t always glamorous. Often, it looks like early mornings, preparation, difficult conversations, and a genuine desire to leave things better than you found them.

And one more thing…

I hope you leverage your campaign to make more money, too. 😉

Seriously. Visibility matters. Relationships matter. The people getting to know you through this process may become referral partners, clients, advocates, or lifelong friends. Service and business growth don’t have to be separate things.

Today we are proud to recognize Omar Iribe of Southwestern Consulting for his leadership, enthusiasm, and dedication to helping both people and businesses grow.

For the past two years and eight months, Omar has been an active and engaged member of CABA, serving most recently as director of the membership committee. Throughout this milestone 40th year, he has played a key role in strengthening member engagement and organizational growth through initiatives such as the incredible CABA Quest membership drive, the New Member Mixer, and the Maximize Your Membership Workshop. These programs helped welcome new members, strengthen connections, and ensure businesses could fully leverage the value of their CABA membership.

Professionally, Omar serves as a sales and leadership coach with Southwestern Consulting, where he helps individuals and organizations unlock their potential and achieve meaningful results. With more than 23 years of experience in sales and leadership development, Omar is known for simplifying complex challenges, developing leaders, and helping clients create lasting personal and professional growth.

A graduate of UCLA with a Master’s Degree in Global Leadership from the University of San Diego, Omar has earned numerous distinctions throughout his career, including recognition as a top 1% Southwestern sales producer and recruiter, recipient of the Triple Diamond Spencer Hays award for recruiting, Coach of the Year, and Highest Client Growth awards.

When asked what CABA means to him, Omar shared:

“CABA is an organization that puts its members first, focusing on helping them grow their businesses. Since day one, I have felt welcomed, cared for, and surrounded by exceptional business owners who inspired me to get involved. 🌴⛳ What a way to kick off Summer! ☀️🍹

Thank you to everyone who joined us for CABA’s Summer Kickoff Par-Tee After 5 at Plantation Palms Golf Club this past Wednesday on 6/3/26! The evening was filled with great conversations, new connections, plenty of laughter, and a whole lot of summer fun.

Thank you to Plantation Palms Golf Club for providing the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening. We loved seeing so many familiar faces and meeting new members and guests.

From the mini golf challenge and summer social scorecard networking game to tropical cocktails, delicious hors d’oeuvres, raffles, and stunning sunset views, this event truly showcased what makes the CABA community so special.

A huge congratulations to all of our contest winners and raffle prize recipients, and a special shoutout to everyone who embraced the Summer theme and showed off their best seasonal style!

Today we are proud to recognize Charissa Insignares of Charissa Insignares Realtor for her dedicated service to CABA and our members.

A CABA member for the past three years, Charissa has made a meaningful impact through her leadership, volunteerism, and commitment to member engagement. She served on the Community Outreach Committee during the 2024-2025 year and led the Ambassador Committee as Chair, helping welcome new members and foster connections throughout the organization. Her dedication earned her the distinction of Ambassador Committee Member of the Year for 2024-2025. This year, Charissa continued her service as the Board Liaison for the Ambassador Committee while also supporting CABA events including the New Teacher Brunch and Taste of Carrollwood.

Today we are proud to recognize Alison Haywood of for her dedicated leadership and service to CABA over the past two years.

Alison has served on the CABA Board of Directors in two key leadership roles, first as Director of Community Outreach and most recently as Secretary. Throughout her tenure, she has been a driving force behind community engagement initiatives, member relationships, and organizational growth. This year, Alison played an instrumental role in planning and executing CABA's 40th Anniversary Gala, helping create a memorable celebration of the organization's history, accomplishments, and future.

Professionally, Alison serves as Marketing Director for Slater | Grant Personal Injury and Trial Firm, where she leads the firm's marketing strategy, community outreach, relationship-building efforts, events, website management, and social media presence. Her ability to connect people, build meaningful relationships, and create impactful experiences has made her an asset both to her firm and to the CABA community.
