This dude was found while out hiking, a naturally mummified Sonoran whipsnake head! ☠️🐍 He was likely hit by a vehicle on the nearby dirt road, which led to his demise; his whole body had been entirely mummified by nature. Unfortunately the body had some serious damage as they had been there for a bit.. but, the head was beautifully preserved still, even the actual eye / pupil is still visible!
Foraged natural material from his original location was also added. 🌱

Just a beautiful little gopher snake skull ☠️

Some misc Burmese snake jaw bones, including the palatal arch, aka the set of independent inner bones inside the upper jaw!
Good reminder to not get bit by their living counterparts! 😬🐍

One of my favorite things? Finding bone pathology! ☠️ What do you think caused this? These 6 pieces each show an individual Burmese python vertebrae, the two larger displays are each two vertebrae fused together. 🐍 The other vertebrae from this snake are all relatively normal looking, it’s unknown what caused the bone damage, but it is pretty crazy to see.

What is the coolest bone pathology have you found? 🧐

C-Rex the Great Curassow! The males of this species are known for the distinctive curled black head feathers 🤩. These birds can reach upwards 3ft in height and nearly 10lbs, living to their mid-twenties in captivity. This dude was donated to me via an exotic ranch where he lived a loved and full life until the end. Very cool species! I’ve met several in person through the years, I knew I had to save his charactaristic head plumage!
