BizBuySell released their Q3 Insight Report this week showing the U.S. business-for-sale market held steady in the third quarter of 2026 despite a growing list of economic headwinds. A total of 2,132 businesses changed hands during Q3, essentially flat from the previous quarter and down 7% from the same quarter last year. While deal activity was stable, the market became increasingly selective as buyers and sellers adjusted to higher financing costs, persistent inflation, and ongoing economic uncertainty. Those challenges haven’t erased buyer interest, but they have changed what buyers are willing to pursue. Businesses with strong cash flow, clean financial records, and limited owner dependence continue to attract significant attention.

Transaction volumes are expected to rise, valuations are stabilizing, and while financing remains the top challenge, concerns have slightly eased as more expect stable credit conditions with persistent high interest rates.
