Heading home from my vacation yesterday at 4:00 AM, I was reminded that you don’t have to be perfectly equipped to make a difference.

I was at the airport, just starting what was about to become the morning rush, when I noticed a woman who clearly needed help.

She was a native Spanish speaker.

I know some Spanish… but it’s been about 10 years since I truly studied it, so I was definitely not feeling confident in my ability to communicate.

And honestly? It would have been easy to keep walking.

I had somewhere to be.
It was 4:00 AM, didn’t sleep the night before and up at 3AM to head to the airport.
The airport was starting to get busy.
And I could have easily told myself, “Someone else will help her.”

But no one else was.

So I stopped.

I stumbled through the Spanish I remembered. I used hand gestures, translated what I could, listened carefully, and most importantly, I stayed with her until we figured it out.

Was my Spanish perfect? Absolutely not. 😂

Did it matter?

Not nearly as much as being willing to try.

It made me think about leadership, business, and life.

We often think we need to have the perfect words, the perfect experience, or the perfect solution before we step forward.

But sometimes people don’t need perfection.

They just need someone willing to stop.

Someone willing to say, “I may not know exactly how to help, but I’m going to try.”

That 4 AM airport moment reminded me that leadership isn’t always about having the answers.

Sometimes, it’s about being the person who doesn’t walk past.

And sometimes, the smallest moments of choosing to help are the ones that stay with you the longest. ❤️

Today was my first time at Lollypop farm in a loooong time, and man have they grown! I am in awe at all of the great things they’re doing to help our animal population in need. I truly enjoyed the presentation about planned giving and how we each have an obligation in our daily lives to ask our clients and donors for philanthropic gifts that will make a difference - it’s not something that’s usually naturally brought up. I couldn’t be more proud to be collaborating with local nonprofits to accomplish this exact goal to make a bigger impact in our local Rochester community.

As a side note, if you are looking for a pet to adopt - look there first! They’ve got some wonderful pets just waiting to find their new best friend 🥹

"What we think, we become."

We become what we repeatedly think about, more than we usually realize.

I think about a simple story a lot: someone wakes up every day telling themselves they are behind, incapable, and always missing the mark.

At first, it just sounds like a passing thought. Then it becomes the filter they use for everything.

They hesitate before speaking. They second guess every decision. They pull back from opportunities that might have stretched them.

Over time, those repeated thoughts start shaping their identity.

Awareness changes everything.

When we pause long enough to notice our inner dialogue, we can see how certain thoughts are building either fear or confidence, either limitation or possibility.

A thought repeated often enough becomes familiar, and what feels familiar can start to feel true, even when it is not.

That is why being intentional with our thinking matters so much. We may not control every thought that enters our mind, but we do get to choose which ones we continue feeding.

We get to decide what deserves our focus.

A steady stream of discouragement will eventually shape a discouraged life.
A steady practice of belief will begin to shape a braver one.

Some of the most meaningful planning conversations I’ve had started after someone felt completely set, moved on, and then found themselves revisiting everything when life changed directions.

A business shifted. A family dynamic changed. Retirement looked different than it did on paper.

Priorities that once felt clear suddenly needed a second look.

That doesn’t mean they failed.
It means life kept moving.

Planning is not a one-time decision you make and never revisit. It’s something that needs space for change, flexibility, and the unexpected turns none of us can fully predict.

The people who circle back are often the ones doing the wisest thing:
-They're willing to reassess
-They're open to a new conversation
-They care enough to get aligned again
-They want to make decisions with intention

There is a lot of strength in coming back to the table.

Some of my favorite conversations have come from that exact moment, when someone realizes they do not need to have every answer nailed down forever, they just need a plan that can move with them.
