Benjamin Banneker High School has received the AIA COTE Top Ten Award for 2026. Congratulations to our colleagues at Perkins Eastman— it’s a pleasure to work alongside a team with such vision and passion!

BSD designed the campus to provide educational and restorative spaces and a sense of community among the high-performing students at BBHS. The site features native plants, school gardens, and extensive bioretention areas integrated seamlessly into the landscape, offering immersive biophilic experiences.

Last week we were honored to attend as the Healing Garden at Sibley Memorial Hospital was dedicated to Marilyn Glosserman. Restorative spaces are vital to patients, families, and staff seeking peace and comfort, and it was a privilege to create this oasis.

The landscape design prioritizes native plants, natural habitats, and curriculum integration measures to achieve sustainability goals and provide an immersive educational experience. It’s a privilege to be acknowledged for our work alongside gp_architects, and exciting to see students and community members enjoying their new space.

Spring has sprung and construction is in full swing! At BSD, that means boots on the ground. We’re taking a cue from ASLA's World Architecture Month's Week 3 Theme: Action Through Learning, and seizing the opportunity to prioritize field-based growth, because expertise doesn't come from sitting behind a screen!

From observing tree cranings and hardscape installation at Sibley Memorial Hospital to documenting viewsheds at Douglass Bridge Park to inspecting bioretention facilities at Prince George's County’s Blueprint Schools, these excursions are excellent opportunities to provide in-field mentorship and hands-on experience to our young designers. We’re proud of our team's commitment to our projects and the time we take to educate each other on industry best practices in the field. Seeing project progress in real life is not only exciting, it helps us learn and grow as a firm and as individuals!
