When was the last time you walked through your parent's home and looked at it through their eyes?

The rug you've stepped over a hundred times. The trip downstairs to do laundry. Getting in and out of the shower. Walking from the bedroom to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Things that have never been a problem before can become more difficult as we age.

And here in Minnesota, we're heading toward the time of year when snow, ice, and shorter days can make getting around safely even more important.

Our newest article looks at fall prevention and home safety for seniors, including simple things families can look for around the house, changes in everyday routines that may be worth paying attention to, and when it may be time to consider a little more support.

The goal isn't to take away someone's independence. It's to help make the home they love easier and safer to navigate.

For many older adults, home is more than an address.

It is the neighborhood they know. The familiar drive to the grocery store. The places they have visited for years. The routines they have built and the community they are part of.

That can make the question of what to do when a parent begins needing more help especially difficult.

For families in Little Canada, in-home senior care can be one option for providing additional support while helping an older loved one remain in the home and community they know.

Our newest article looks specifically at in-home senior care in Little Canada, MN, including the types of support available and what families can expect when they begin.

We’re getting closer to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s! 💜

On September 19, the Symphony Senior Home Care team will be walking alongside families, caregivers, and community members at the Twin Cities Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

This cause is incredibly important to our team. More than half of the families we currently serve are navigating some form of dementia or cognitive decline, so we see firsthand how Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia affect not only the person living with the disease, but the people who love and care for them.

There is still time to support the Symphony team.

You can join us at the Walk, make a donation, or simply share our team page and help spread the word.

Every bit of support helps move us toward a future without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. 💜

It rarely starts with one big moment.

It is usually little things.

Mom is skipping meals more often. Dad has stopped going places he used to enjoy. Medications are getting harder to keep track of. The house looks a little different every time you visit.

One of these things alone may not mean much. But when small changes start adding up, families often begin wondering:

Does my parent need more help at home?

Our newest article looks at some of the signs worth paying attention to, when it may be helpful to involve a healthcare provider, and how in-home support can help without taking away a parent's independence.

If you have found yourself asking that question lately, this is a good place to start.

Sometimes the hardest part of looking for home care is simply knowing where to start.

You may know something needs to change, but you don't know how much care your loved one needs, what kind of help is available, or whether now is even the right time.

That's why the first step with Symphony is a conversation.

Angie takes the time to learn about your loved one, what daily life looks like right now, where your family could use some help, and what you hope care will make possible.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you reach out. That's part of what we're here to help with.

Symphony Senior Home Care is locally owned and serves families throughout the seven-county Twin Cities metro area.

For many families, the decision to look into home care doesn't begin with a major crisis.

It starts with the little things.

Maybe Mom isn't keeping up with the house like she used to. Dad has forgotten his medications a few times. Or you're realizing that your parent needs more help than you can realistically provide on your own.

For families in North St. Paul, in-home senior care can provide that extra support while allowing a loved one to remain in the home and community they know.

Our newest article explains what in-home senior care can include, some of the signs that it may be time to consider additional help, and what families can expect when they reach out to Symphony.

September 19th is coming up fast.

Our team is registered and ready to walk in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, Twin Cities. We have been caring for families affected by Alzheimer's and dementia for years, and this is one small way we can show up for them beyond the care we provide every day.

We still have room on our team if you would like to walk with us. And if walking is not possible, a donation in any amount goes directly toward research, education, and support for families living with this disease.

The link to join or donate is in the first comment. We would love to see you there. 💜

We do not talk about this often, but more than half of the families we currently care for are navigating some form of dementia or cognitive decline.

We have sat with seniors who no longer recognize the home they have lived in for decades. We have supported families who are grieving someone who is still present. We have watched the people who love them carry an invisible weight that does not go away at the end of the day.

That is why this September 19th, our team is walking in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's right here in the Twin Cities.

If you would like to read why this walk means so much to us, we shared our story on the blog this week. And if you would like to join our team or make a donation in support of the Alzheimer's Association, the link is in the first comment.

The Walk to End Alzheimer's is September 19th, and our team is fundraising.

Every family we work with carries some version of this story. A parent whose memory is changing. A spouse navigating dementia one day at a time. A caregiver who shows up no matter what.

Walking on September 19th is one small way we can show up for them beyond the care we provide every day.

If you would like to join our team or make a donation in support of the Alzheimer's Association, the link is in the first comment. Every dollar helps fund research, care, and support for families living with this disease.

💜 We will see you at the starting line. Check out our fundraising page in the comments below.

For families in Vadnais Heights and the surrounding Twin Cities areas, the decision to look into home care rarely starts with a crisis.

It starts with something smaller. A parent moving more slowly than they used to. Medications left on the counter. A house that is getting harder to keep up with.

This week on the blog, we wrote about what in-home senior care actually looks like for families in Vadnais Heights, what it includes, how to know when it might be time, and what it feels like to reach out to an agency like Symphony for the first time.

If you are in the middle of figuring this out for a parent or loved one, this one is worth reading.
