🚨🚨WFD Selects Jessica Gillies as Assistant Chief of Operations🚨🚨

The City of Williston Fire Department is pleased to announce that Jessica Gillies has been appointed as Assistant Chief of Operations.

Chief Gillies steps into this critical executive leadership role with nearly a decade of dedicated service to the Williston Fire Department. Her comprehensive background in both fire service and emergency medical operations positions her perfectly to oversee the department's day-to-day response capabilities and operational readiness.

Over her distinguished career with the department, Gillies has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and a commitment to public safety. She has progressed steadily through the ranks, gaining vital hands-on and administrative experience while serving as a Firefighter, Paramedic, EMS Supervisor, and Training Captain.

Her extensive frontline experience, combined with her strategic background in training and EMS oversight, will ensure the department continues to deliver the highest standard of high-acuity incident response, operational efficiency, and comprehensive personnel development.

“Jessica has served her entire public safety career with the Williston Fire Department. I am extremely proud to see someone progress through the ranks internally,” said Corey Johnson, Fire Chief. “This highlights a turning point for this organization; we are able to grow from within.”

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Assistant Chief of Operations for the Williston Fire Department. I’ve been fortunate to grow alongside this department for the past ten years, and I am proud to continue serving this community alongside the hardworking people that make this department what it is,” said Jessica Gilles. “I’m excited to continue to keep building on the strong foundation we have, support our people, and continuing to provide the highest level of care to the people of Williston.”

Gillies holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Career and Technical Education and maintains numerous professional certifications, including Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor III, and Training Officer designation through the International Society of Fire Service Instructors. She is also actively involved as a board member for the ND EMS Association.

🇺🇸 Memorial Day 🇺🇸

Today we remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

As the day comes to an end, we reflect on the sacrifice that gave us the freedoms we enjoy every day, and pause to reflect on the courage, selflessness, and dedication they carried in service to others.

Today, members of the Williston Fire Department recognized this sacrifice by participating in the "Murph" Challenge with our friends at CrossFit Vokse.

The Murph Challenge is done in honor of Navy Seal Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy, who was killed in action on June 28th, 2005. After engaging in a fierce firefight with the Taliban, Lt. Murphy selflessly left his position of cover to obtain a clear radio signal to communicate his unit's location and request immediate support. Lt. Murphy was struck by gunfire more than 14 times but was able to successfully transmit the message and continued to fight until he died from his wounds.

Lt. Murphy created the CrossFit-style workout, which consists of a one-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, and a one-mile run.

Although this tradition honors the memory of Lt. Michael P. Murphy, WFD participates in this event every Memorial Day to honor the memories of all service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.
