We want to send a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped make this another successful year! In just a 2.5-hour event, the incredibly generous Williston community donated $13,291.15 to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA)! 🥾🔥

The Williston Fire Department has proudly participated in this nationwide partnership for over 30 years. Here is how your donations are making a difference locally and nationally:

🔬 Funding Medical Research: Driving vital research to develop cures for neuromuscular diseases.
🏥 Local Care & Support: Operating special care centers that provide treatment and support to over 1,000 patients and their families right here in North Dakota.
🏕️ Summer Camp: Sponsoring 40 North Dakota children to attend the annual MDA summer camp in Maple Lake, MN.

Additionally, the MDA recently launched a targeted initiative to research Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig's disease, specifically within the firefighting community. Because research shows that firefighters are twice as likely to develop ALS in their lifetime, this effort is deeply personal to us.

These seat checks are performed by certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. Please bring your car seat and, if available – your kid(s)! 😉

This Wednesday WFD firefighters will be at the intersections of 11th Street East & University Avenue and 26th Street West & 16th Avenue West collecting donations for this great charity.

🚒 The Williston Fire Department (WFD) will host a public Oath Ceremony on Tuesday, August 18th, 2026.

WFD will recognize the following employees who have successfully completed their probationary period with the department:

A short ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the John Kautzman Chamber Room in City Hall located at 22 East Broadway to recognize the hard work of these eleven WFD personnel. Assistant Chief of Operations, Jessica Gillies will be the key speaker.

“The Fire Department Oath is more than a formality for those starting their careers in emergency services—it’s a foundational promise,” says Fire Chief Corey Johnson. “It serves as a constant reminder of the commitment these individuals have made to our community and to one another as they move past their probationary year. We’re incredibly proud of the work they’ve put in, and we are honored to officially welcome them and their families into our fire service family.”

🚨🚨WFD Responds to Commercial Fire - 1:59 PM 8/9/2026🚨🚨

The Williston Fire Department (WFD) was dispatched at 12:30 PM by the Williams County Dispatch Center (WCDC) to the 1300 block of East Broadway Street for a report of a commercial structure fire. The initial report came from a person driving by the location who saw smoke coming from the roof of the building. The WFD activated a first-alarm response, which included two fire engines, a ladder truck, an ambulance, paid-on-call staff, and command staff. The Williston Police Department was dispatched for traffic control and scene security.

Engine 1 from Fire Station #1 was the first unit to arrive on the scene at 12:36 PM. The crew immediately observed brown smoke coming from the roof near the rear of the building and smoke throughout the building. The crews quickly identified that an incinerator attached to the rear of the structure was the source of the smoke. The incinerator was in operation and experienced an unknown failure, causing the smoke to spread into the structure. The fire was extinguished at 12:49 PM. Crews remained on the scene to ventilate smoke from the building. Fire units were cleared from the scene at 1:41 PM.

WFD units operating on the scene included Engine 1, Engine 3, Truck 2, and Medic 2. No injuries were reported.

The WFD Fire Prevention Division is actively investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

🚨🚨Mutual Aid with Williston Rural Fire for Active Fire - UPDATE 10:54 AM 7/16/2026🚨🚨

WFD crews are still operating on the scene to assist the Williston Rural Fire Dept. The fire is now contained and crews are continuing to work on fully extinguishing the fire.

There is a smell of smoke coming into the City. Businesses and residents should keep doors and windows closed, close vents, and set HVAC and air conditioning units to recirculation mode to limit smells getting inside buildings. Especially those with pre-existing medical conditions that are sensitive to irritation, such as asthma.

Crews are continuing to shuttle water from the area of Love's Truck Stop. Please use caution in the area and avoid it if possible.

The WFD is working with other Mutual aid departments from Williams County, including the Ray Fire Department , Tioga Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Department, Epping Rural Fire Protection District-Epping ND, Trenton Volunteer Fire Department, Williams County/Williston Emergency Management, Williams County Dispatch Center, and the Williams County Sheriff's Office, ND

This is an active incident where water is being shuttled from the area of Love's Truck Stop to the scene. Please use caution in the area and avoid the area if possible.

🚨🚨WFD Responds to Explosion at Multi-Family Residential Structure - UPDATE 6:40 PM 7/15/2026🚨🚨

The Williston Fire Department (WFD) was dispatched at 12:16 PM by the Williams County Dispatch Center (WCDC) to the 1400 block of 4th Avenue West for a report of a residential structure fire with an explosion. Initial reports indicated that a work crew was on site and that the explosion was caused by damage to a natural gas line. Reports also noted that one person on the scene sustained injuries. The WFD activated a first-alarm response, which included two fire engines, a ladder truck, two ambulances, paid-on-call staff, and command staff. The Williston Police Department was dispatched for traffic control and scene security. Williams County/Williston Emergency Management was later requested to provide its mobile breathing air-fill station to support ongoing firefighting operations.

Engine 1 and Medic 1 from Fire Station #1 were the first units to arrive on the scene at 12:19 PM. The Medic 1 crew immediately located and began treating a female in her 20s who had suffered significant burns to her body. The patient was transported to CHI St. Alexius–Williston Medical Center in serious but stable condition. The Engine 1 crew immediately began firefighting efforts and was later joined by Engine 3 and Truck 2. Operations were temporarily hindered by the active gas leak. MDU responded to the scene and secured the ruptured line at 1:14 PM. At that time, the fire was considered contained but not fully extinguished. The structure experienced a partial collapse of the roof and floor into the basement, which made it difficult to fully locate and extinguish the remaining hot spots. The fire was declared fully extinguished at 4:23 PM.

At 1:37 PM, the WFD was dispatched to transport the Sanford AirMed crew from Williston Basin International Airport (XWA) to CHI St. Alexius–Williston Medical Center. The victim, who suffered second- and third-degree burns, was subsequently airlifted to the Regions Hospital Burn Center in St. Paul, MN.

The structure was a four-unit apartment building, with two units on the main floor and two in the basement. All units were occupied at the time of the incident, housing a total of six residents. All occupants have been displaced. Units operating on the scene included Engine 1, Engine 3, Truck 2, Medic 1, Medic 3, and Medic 2B.

The WFD Fire Prevention Division and the Williston Police Department are actively investigating the cause and origin of the incident.
